DH just had to take 5 year old DD to A&E

Because she pushed a bit of paper into her ear! I would expect it of 2 year old DD but thought 5 year old was past this stage.

Apparently she wanted to pretend it was wax! (She does have issues with wax build up and has had drops and liked getting bits of wax out!)

Oh dear!

10yo I nanny, put a tiny bit of Lego in his ear last month to see if it really did hurt Hmm apparently yes it does...funny that!

Nurse who removed it said she had a 41yo man who’d done the same whilst proving to his wife their son couldn’t have fit it in his ear.....

PlainVanilla · 25/02/2019 18:45

Why is this an accident or emergency.
Could you not have removed the paper yourself with tweezers?

It was way too far in, I could barely see it. We think she pushed it in with a pencil. I’m not going messing around in her ear with a tweezers.

My dd age 8 swallowed a screw....

JellycatElfie · 25/02/2019 19:01

Oh dear!!! Grin

As to answer pp question this absolutely needs to be dealt with by professionals. You could perforate the eardrum messing with tweezers!

Troels · 25/02/2019 19:09

Ds did it with peas. Right up his nose where I couldn't reach, it rolled around as he breathed.
The Doctor said she had removed bird seed from a two year olds ear that day. His big brother had sprinkled it in while he slept

Peopleplease · 25/02/2019 19:16

Oh crap! I just remembered - I live in Ireland. A&E visits cost €100!!!

Camping last year, ds 9 shoved a tic tac up his nose. Omg he was hysterical! Made him blow his nose and it flew out!!
Was more hilarious than when he swallowed a magnetic ball bearing off a construction set....

Brokenfurnitureandroses · 25/02/2019 19:23

Go to your local emergency doctor - free for under 6 (eg d-doc, west doc, etc). Then if they refer you to a and e you wont have to pay.

FairyMoppings · 25/02/2019 19:23

My sister had a thing for putting stuff up her nose.

A pebble out of the garden - ended up in A&E

A raisin - dug put by dad with a pair of tweezers

A bit of torn off sponge from the bath - had been in trouble for the above two incidents already so she said nothing and just left up there. A few weeks later she started to smell bad, nobody wanted to be near her. Mum couldn't work out what it was as she was bathing every day, had clean clithes, no toilet accidents, so took her to the GP.

GP fished out the foul rotting bit of sponge Envy

Soubriquet · 25/02/2019 19:28

I urm....swallowed a pound coin one day.

I was in secondary school so way old enough to know better.

I was messing around and ended up swallowing it.

Didn’t have to go to A&E though

My rather exasperated mother called the doctor and they told me to wait..it will come out eventually.

It did Grin

Oh dear. 5 yo DS put a piece of Lego up his nose the other day. I too thought we were past that! I did a 'mothers kiss' and it flew out luckily.

StillMe1 · 25/02/2019 20:43

DSis had to go to the hospital to have the end of a cotton bud taken out of her ear. She always was a bit prone to strange injuries and other events. This time she had excelled herself. She was over 30 and the mother of a young child.

EggysMom · 25/02/2019 20:47

Many years ago (many, many, many years ago!) I put a bead up my nose, and had to go to A&E to have it removed. I don't know why I did it. But it's the only time I've had to go to A&E for myself in my life!

Parsleyisntfood · 25/02/2019 20:56

@Cheetahssitonfajitas what’s a “mother’s kiss”? Seems like something I should find out since Ds seems to get less sensible with every year that passes.
Hurtled off to a and e for a weird shaped hard unexplained bruise, they were baffled but couldn’t explain it. Another sleepless night. Until I spotted how how he turns his reading light off, by leaning all his weight on the corner of his cabin bed.

Zofloramummy · 25/02/2019 21:02

My dd shoves a raisin up her nose age 3. It swelled up and the A&E doctor couldn’t get it out. So we had an appointment for ear, nose and throat clinic the next day.
That morning 20 mins before the appointment she was bouncing on the sofa and it flew out. She took a look at it and said mummy I’m not going to eat that!
Wasted day of annual leave lol

Zofloramummy · 25/02/2019 21:03

Mothers kiss is when you blow into their mouths and in theory whatever is stuck up there nose should fly out.

Bigonesmallone3 · 25/02/2019 21:03

When my ds was about 6/7 he was eating jelly beans out of his hands, as he ducked for another mouthful he sniffed at the same time, sucking up a red jelly bean!
Then started freaking because the colouring started to come of and dribble out his nose and he thought he was bleeding 😂😂

Dh is a medic. He's removed a whole butternut squash and another time a scaffolding pole from an anus.
I've taken dd to hospital as she put 10 peas up her nose.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 25/02/2019 21:08

My college tutor had previously been a paramedic and had taken a man to hospital who 'fell' on a potato!

WoahBodyforrrm · 25/02/2019 21:12

We went on holiday this summer and on the first day of the holiday, we discovered our 8yo DS had attached 2 small magnets to the end of his willy. They were super strong magnets and were so hard to get off. When I got them off, I realised they had worn away the skin on his foreskin and met in the middle. It turns out he’d done it he week before after his older brother dared him and said he’d give him £10 if he did it 😡. This explained why he set of the airport detectors but due to the area involved, they waved him through assuming it was a bit of metal on his shorts.

We had to go to the resort Dr who couldn’t speak English so I had to use google translate, and I could see them trying not to laugh as it dawned on them what had happened. We then got sent to the hospital to another Dr who couldn’t speak English but the nurse could and her translation between us was comedy gold (I can say this now six months down the line 😂) she finished the consultation by asking him if his brother had given him the money 😂 how she laughed while he said no! If this doesn’t make it into the best mans speech at his wedding, I’ll eat my hat!!

Kids...who’d have em 🙄

missnevermind · 25/02/2019 21:12

When my DD was about 4 she came into bed with us early one morning and we all went back to sleep. She woke up first and was bored so....
She took the backs off all my earrings that I was wearing and stuffed them in my ear hole. When I got up and went to the bathroom it felt really funny. So I shook my head and 4 came out I had a wash and pottered for a while but it still didn’t feel right so I had a poke about with some tweezers and found another one that had been stuffed right down. Made me feel queasy every time I thought about it.

Cheetahssitonfajitas · 25/02/2019 21:21

@Parsleyisntfood you push shut the clear nostril then blow into their mouth, a puff like you are giving mouth to mouth. Then it generally flies out. A&E nurse taught me on our first visit and it's come in handy!
