Anyone else shop at Iceland?

Have done my first shop with them. Misconceptions out of the window... Food is good in quality and price and we use what we need, not what the portion comes as.

My only thing is, online other supermarkets, I can't seem to load my trolley then add to it later on. I understand that they debit your account on the day of order, as opposed to day of delivery.

Am I being daft or is that correct?

I'd use them but the nearest one is miles away and they don't deliver to my area. I did used to shop there years ago in my old area and yes they charge the day you shop and you couldn't add to your trolley.

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 25/02/2019 12:00

I use iceland and can amend my trolley up until 12am on the day before delivery is due?

Agree it is a brilliant shop, we've recently had to tighten our belts and being able to buy frozen veg and things like that is really helpful and it is good quality. They do green rice steam bags which are delicious ready in 3 minutes and 39 calories!

They are also good to staff. I was in hospital with an employee of theirs who was terrified she'd be sacked for being absent without telling them. As soon as they found out she was in hospital they out her on full pay for her sick leave and let her have shorter shifts when she came back for the same pay until she had recovered.

cjt110 · 25/02/2019 12:04

@Coffeethrowtrampbitch Can I then load my trolley, without checking out, and then actually place the order on say Thursday for delivery on Friday?

Yes, it's been brilliant. a bit of variety instead of ordering the same old things from Asda.

I get iceland maybe twice a month mainly to stock the freezer, i cant get everything i need there

DoneLikeAKipper · 25/02/2019 12:06

I love their duck spring rolls. Actually having some tonight with dinner!

cjt110 · 25/02/2019 12:11

@IVEgottheDECAF Yes I must admit, there are some things I can't get. But I also like that it doesn't have endless variety. Stops me spending too much!

Yes I alternate beteeen Iceland and Ocado! Great for things like minced beef, fruit shoots and their tiger bloomer bread. And you can get delivery the next day.

The interface is nowhere near as good as Ocado but that’s part of the challenge!

Shinesweetfreedom · 25/02/2019 12:27

Their toilet rolls have a Good Housekeeping award and are very good value at 9 for £2.50.They also have a card, you don’t get points but for every £20 pounds you put on they add a £1.So I get all my shopping that I can get in there at a further 5 percent discount. The stores are not that big so there isn’t a massive range, but anything else I can pick up elsewhere.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 25/02/2019 12:28

Yes I go to Iceland

I love their meal in a bag Paella . very nice . My sons like their ready meals of chicken curry and lasagne for nights when its easier to chuck a few of them in the oven.

BillywigSting · 25/02/2019 12:30

I have an Iceland within walking distance and I love it.

Good quality stuff, reasonably priced and if you spend £20 in store they will deliver it for free which I find really useful.

I would recommend their reduced fat fresh meatballs too. They're just the right size, not full of crap and well seasoned. They're often on offer too as part of a 3 for £10 deal with things like chicken and bacon.

wizzywig · 25/02/2019 12:31

Their vegan burgers are lush. And im not vegan

Connieston · 25/02/2019 12:31

Frozen avocados and their fruit and cream gateaux are winners for me.

Sammysquiz · 25/02/2019 12:31

I’ve never been to one before, but one’s opening in my area this month so will take a look. Do they sell any fresh stuff or is it all frozen?

JingsMahBucket · 25/02/2019 12:38

@Sammysquiz yeah they sell milk, cheese, eggs, etc. Some locations have a few basic fruits and vegetables like onions or apples.

MamaHarry · 25/02/2019 12:55

Connieston how do you use frozen avocado?

Ariela · 25/02/2019 12:57

Their ice creams on a stick are very good value and actually nicer than Lidl/Aldi cheap ones, we especially like the mint ones.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 25/02/2019 13:22

Oh you reminded me to add ice cream to my list @Ariela Smile

I buy the mint and choc, or choc and nut or strawberry and vanilla cones 6 for a quid and , in my opinion, just as good as the dearer Cornetto cones . The Italian chocolate at £1.50 is delicious too, Too delicious.

BarbaraofSevillle · 25/02/2019 13:23

There's one near us that's massive. It's an Iceland Food Warehouse and sells quite a lot of fruit & veg, fresh meat, cheese, fish etc, bread, milk, alcohol, toiletries and cleaning products, you could definitely get a full shop there as long as you didn't need lots of fairly specialist ingredients.

The frozen range is probably also the widest available, lots of unusual meat and fish as well as more different types of ice cream, pizza etc than you could ever imagine. They even do all the Greggs pastry range. Iceland is far more than frozen processed food now.

Connieston · 25/02/2019 16:02

MamaHarry defrosted and mashed with some balsamic vinegar or a fried egg on a bagel. It's not exactly like using fresh which will always be nicer but it's one of my favourite little lunch/brunches Grin

Nicpem1982 · 25/02/2019 16:14

We have one with in walking distance and our faves are

Sweet potatoe fries
Vegan burgers
Singapore noodles in a bag
Chicken nuggets
Own brand quarter pounders
Sweet and sour chicken ready meal
Special rice
Stuff crust pizzas

formerbabe · 25/02/2019 16:17

They have some fantastic things to be fair. I was very surprised when I first shopped in one. I couldn't do my whole weeks shop in there but I often pop in for stuff.

The luxury moussaka is delicious and is easily as good as something you'd get from m&s or Waitrose in my opinion.

BikeRunSki · 25/02/2019 16:18

They are excellent. I use them if I am passing, but there aren’t any particular close to home or work, and they don’t deliver where I live. I really like thei ethical credentials. About 30 years ago they were the first supermarket to sell only free range eggs.,

ssd · 25/02/2019 16:21

I love Iceland

CoolCarrie · 25/02/2019 16:23

We bought lots of our Christmas and New year dinner items from Iceland and it was all excellent.

Ariela · 25/02/2019 20:23

& if you're having a party the frozen sausage rolls etc are excellent value and very tasty
