NotSoThinLizzy · 24/02/2019 19:45

So I've had 2 DC and 1st labor was 6 hours and 2nd was 4 hours so I'm way ahead of myself just now just had positive test but am I right in thinking this labour will be even shorter I simply cannot have a baby in 3 hours as the nearest hosp is 2 and half hours away

1 - 36 hours
2 - 6.5 hours (induces early)
3 - 2.5 hours
4 - 10 minutes Shock

Have you thought about a home birth?

Samind · 24/02/2019 19:50

1st was induced and under 2 hours altogether so doesnt always go the way you think it will or have been told. I was told not to expect anything for couple of days after being induced being my first. Friend was in slow labour for days with her first. Congratulations SmileFlowers

You need to prepare for a home birth.... that’s what I was told after 2 slightly shorter labours.

AragonsGirl · 24/02/2019 19:55

First was about 12 hours from first noticeable contraction to birth (2 hours pushing, no movement and forceps delivery)
Second was about 3 hours from first contraction to birth...resulting in an unplanned home birth in our bedroom!

LemonBreeland · 24/02/2019 19:57

4 hrs
1 hr 45 mins
45 mins

I had home births for 2 and 3. Pretty much guaranteed number 3 is going to be quicker.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 24/02/2019 19:58

If you expect a short labour make sure you keep your bladder empty during the early stages.
I had ds in 2 hours - from being alseep in bed to holding him - fully clothed +shoes!
Bladder suffered trauma and had to self catheterise for a year. Sad

Neighneigh · 24/02/2019 19:59

Ds1 6 hours, Ds2 my waters went (slowly, mind), I rang the hospital (45 mins away at top speed and no traffic, which is impossible)... They told me to lie down and ring back in an hour. Sod that I said, and called them 10 mins later from the car. Ds2 born 45 mins after we arrived. Ha! I said. I'd consider a home birth if I were you. We are pretty rural too and midwife said just call an ambulance if things start during rush hour.

Have a really good plan in place with a few different people you can call on to help with your other kids, Ds2 was also two weeks early & planned friend help was an hour away on the night!

JRMisOdious · 24/02/2019 20:00

Labour 1, 2 Inductions (😱) 37 hours
Labour 2, 2 hrs 20 mins, shot out unaided (8 years later)

Sorry!

Tournesol · 24/02/2019 20:01

1st baby: 12 hour labour
2nd baby: 12 hour labour
3rd: 45 minutes!
I had all mine at home and last one, unintentionally, with no medical help just 999 on the phone to husband.
Think you need to be prepared for a speedy home delivery!

WeCameToDance · 24/02/2019 20:04

First was 3 hours. Second 43 minutes. I dread to think what a third would be.
Would you consider a home birth? You wouldn't have to go through with it if you felt you could get to the hospital in time but if not at least you will be prepared for birthing at home.

DrQuinnMedicineWoman · 24/02/2019 20:05

1st - 13hrs
2nd - 4hrs start to finish (induction)
3rd - 11 Minutes!!

I was told all the way through my 3rd pregnancy by midwives that third labours are generally unpredictable and can either go longer or shorter than previous labours. In my case I def went shorter Grin

NotSoThinLizzy · 24/02/2019 20:12

Home birth shouldn't be an issue as other labours were both uncomplicated it's lucky I was already at the hosp with both labour's for unrelated stuff. It's not unheard of for an ambulance to take 4 hours just to get here then another like 2 hours to get to hosp 😂 there was on lassy recently had her twins 45 miles apart from each other in ambulance it was a shit show tbh

First was 2 hours and I actually started delivering in the hospital toilets. After that we decided on a home birth for number 2. Was just over 3 hours but if you can have a home birth I would definitely recommend it. I had 3 midwives all to myself and was sitting up in lovely fresh sheets in a super king size bed so everyone could have cuddles 20 minutes after I had delivered.

sparklytwinklyfairylights · 24/02/2019 20:34

1st 12 hrs
2nd 45 mins

claireandlilly · 24/02/2019 20:40

1st- 6 hours
2nd- 4 hours
3rd- 15 mins, luckily I was at an antenatal appointment, must have been a shock for the corridor full of people though😆

Plan for a home birth.

littlemissalwaystired · 24/02/2019 20:43

Third babies are definitely notorious for being little pickles sometimes so I wouldn't necessarily count on having a shorter labourSmile would definitely consider a home birth if the other two were uncomplicated though.

SalrycLuxx · 24/02/2019 20:48
  1. 6 hours
  2. 2 hours

Plan for a home birth. That’s what I was told after 1 anyway, but it truly was the only feasible option.

I’m not having a third. Expect it would take about half an hour!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/02/2019 20:50

well, my first was 10 hours (and a week early) my second about 1h 10 min from first contraction to first nappy (and two weeks early).

Dextrodependant · 24/02/2019 20:53

I had DD in a quick labour, 1hr 10mind from the first twinge to holding her in my arms.

When I was having DS I spent the entire pregnancy expecting to have to catch him at some random moment but he ended up taking 16 hours to be born.

I would definitely think about having a home birth though, better to be prepared for one than have an unplanned one.

BellMcEnd · 24/02/2019 20:56
  1. Six hours
  2. 4 hours
  3. 1 hour with the second stage recorded as 2 minutes.

The second two were home births on the advice of the midwife who delivered DC1.

SparklingTwilight · 24/02/2019 20:57

First 4.5 hours, second 50 minutes. I was told if I had a third, I would be admitted two weeks before my due date until baby was born. I may have several times seriously considered having a third just for the potential 4 weeks of peace and sleep

PickAChew · 24/02/2019 20:57

First 17 hours, forceps assisted birth.
Second, a few hours of mild, sporadic contractions, then wham!

I was advised to book a home birth, if there was a next time.

WonkyDonk87 · 24/02/2019 20:58

We planned for a homebirth, but didn't anticipate the quick labour. So pleased we did - we had everything to hand and midwives knew where we were etc (even though they missed the actual birth, having assumed I would take much longer). If we have another I will definitely choose a homebirth again - the midwives have told me they'll sit in my house from the first twinge next time Grin

PlinkPlink · 24/02/2019 20:59

Only have 1 but been thinking about no.2 so this makes for an interesting read.

DS arrived in 6 hours. Only took 2 pushes! And the woman who delivered him recommended a home birth next time 😂😂

I am taking note!! 😂😂

Those of you who had home births - do you look back on it with fondness at all?
