School with hand, foot and mouth?

My DS(4) has Hand Foot and Mouth that he got from DD. He's back at school after half term - perfect timing Hmm. I was all set to keep him off until it cleared and filled out the "Studybugs" app to declare his absence but it said that he could still attend with it! I was surprised as DD's childminder wouldn't accept her with it. Is this usual? Have you sent your DC to school with HFM? He seems well, has no temperature just spots on his hands. I'd rather he went in if I'm honest 🤷🏿‍♀️
Thanks in advance.

NHS advice is to send them to school as long as they don’t feel unwell.

Every school I've worked in has had the policy that the child can attend school once the fever has gone. All those schools have been in the same LA though so other counties may have different policies.

My dd4 had hand foot and mouth a few weeks ago, school we're happy to have her back after it had been diagnosed by the gp. I found it weird as I'm sure it's one of those virus' that spreads like wild fire!

Hand foot and mouth looks impressive but is normally as harmless as a cold which is why most schools don't care.

Try being an adult with hand foot and mouth, it is horrendous.

Your childminder was in the wrong here; no need to exclude!

Its because people can be contagious even weeks after the symptoms have gone and people can carry it and not have symptoms

In effect quarantine it would have no effect so there is no need to miss school if they are feeling well enough
