I've got one child with a snotty nose and cough, a half defrosted lamb joint, school bags to pack, ironing to do and dog to walk. How can I not make today feel like an uphill struggle please?

Don't know how to make it not seem like an upwards struggle...

I have beef to prep, two comprehension exercises left over from holiday homework to make one child do, ironing, dog walking.

I would love to go back to bed already 😆

CakeNinja · 24/02/2019 09:01

Is the snotty nosed child old enough to leave at home while you walk the dog?
Are the school bags to pack yours or the child’s?
I’m taking my dds wedding outfit shopping with my mum Hmm it’s going to be painful, they’re teenagers 😭
Just kill me now!
We do have afternoon tea booked for afterwards - i’d Like to skip directly to that part. Dp and ds are going swimming and then coming home to watch a film by the fire.

It's the start of our half term so I've come out for a run and some peace and quiet Smile

Our last day isn't until tomorrow. Tomorrow we'll get up at Tuesday time (DD has a SATs booster before school on Tuesdays) and have breakfast in McDonald's.

lucysmam · 24/02/2019 09:08

Would the snotty nosed child walk the dog with you? Or pack their own school bag for you to just check there is x, y, and z, in there?

There are last night's pots to wash here, school shirts to iron because I've worked all week when I don't normally, baking to do for pack-ups, pictures to put in homework then print, nip to Lidl for pack-up stuff. Oh, and I need to get some washing on.

Plus I have a short list of my own stuff I could do with getting on with.

Going to move in a minute and sort the washing.

mizu · 24/02/2019 09:08

Ironing and sorting for tomorrow. I've got marking to do and DDs have revision for a couple of tests next week and other bits of homework.

Looking outside while having breakfast and thinking of a walk first.

Mumshappy · 24/02/2019 09:10

Im all organised but im back at work after mat leave of nearly a year so im apprehensive. I hope your day goes ok.

Stylinit · 24/02/2019 09:12

DH and I are both teachers so will mostly spend today frantically trying to get through the to do lists we have been ignoring for the week while the dc watch tv and argue.

Though we have friends coming over for a meal later which is my strategy for not making today totally painful.

Hollowvictory · 24/02/2019 09:13

Recovering from jet lag here

Afonavon · 24/02/2019 09:16

Start of half term for us. We’re all full of cold as per usual in school holidays!

LifeCasting · 24/02/2019 09:19

Trying to work out whether to do roast for lunch or dinner. About to make a mound of buttery white toast and tea for us all to share in bed Smile

MegBusset · 24/02/2019 09:20

DS1's birthday today so we completed all homework in a mad rush yesterday. Today we're going for birthday lunch at Pizza Express. Will still have to do school uniform ironing and make packed lunches later though!

LifeCasting · 24/02/2019 09:20

Meant to add, think I’ll do a bit of gardening so hopefully it will entice DS away from his screen and onto the trampoline later!

JacquesHammer · 24/02/2019 09:21

Not the last day here.

We’re going on holiday Grin

Ragwort · 24/02/2019 09:24

Long walk in the local forest planned with DH, leaving 17 year old at home to do all his half term A level homework to finish (not even started the week’s homework Hmm.

beela · 24/02/2019 09:26

Everyone in our house is feeling under the weather and as though we all need a week off.

I want to go to IKEA except I know it would be vile so will maybe go tomorrow instead, assuming dc actually make it back to school. Maybe cinema instead. I need to get ds to do his maths homework first though 😭

Charles11 · 24/02/2019 09:35

If the child is well enough to walk with you, get out as soon as you can. Get all your jobs done ASAP including prepping the veg to go with your dinner, ironing in front of the tv or with music/audiobook/drama from bbciplayer radio to make it a mode pleasant experience.

I’ve got food shopping to do, laundry, ds football match, dinner, bathroom to clean.
Around that, I want to go for a bike ride, take dd to practise on her bike, nag the kids to sort out their rooms.
Hopefully we’ll all flop on the sofa for a film and pudding after an early dinner.

Popfan · 24/02/2019 09:39

Ditch the ironing? I don't iron anything! This includes school shirts - thank you m & s for your ultimate non iron uniform!!

CakeNinja · 24/02/2019 09:45

Yes, we also iron absolutely nothing! Talk about making work for yourself Grin
Kids uniforms all tumble dry and then shake out.
I can wear what I want to work (within reason, no jeans and must look clean and tidy so pretty much buy dresses that can tumble dry and not crease to wear with tights and boots) and dp is a builder so no ironing necessary. We don’t even own one!

Decormad38 · 24/02/2019 09:49

Cleaning the oven. 😢

happypotamus · 24/02/2019 09:49

We have an afternoon out planned to one of those little Legoland places that some cities have. I can't afford it (I haven't worked out how to afford the bus to work for the week) but booked tickets weeks ago with a voucher.
I have to get ready for tomorrow, which includes getting DD1 to finish her homework, find p.e kit, I have several badges to sew on her Brownie uniform.
First challenge of the day: taking them to church, but I least today I can persuade them to behave and be quiet by threatening not to take them to a surpise trip out later.

MegBusset · 24/02/2019 10:41

DS1 has to wear all cotton school uniform (eczema) which really does need ironing otherwise it looks ridiculously crumpled :(

LaserShark · 24/02/2019 10:49

I’m back at work tomorrow (teacher) and have masses to do. I can’t decide between dragging the children out for a walk which might make us all feel better but will be painful to instigate and mean leaving all my work til this evening OR letting them veg out still in Pjs on their screens whilst I sort out uniforms and to do lists and get work done bit by bit throughout the day which extends the misery all day long but leaves the evening free (for me to cry and look at job listings and conclude that there is nothing else I can do for a living and cry some more). DH is at work today and the children are a bit ratty already so probably the walk is the best option.

MotherOfSuburbia · 24/02/2019 10:51

Have spent all half term entertaining the kids and decluttering the house so today is the day to catch up on marking and lesson planning.
