Thought I was just lazy but I have a vitamin b12 deficiency!

So I went to the doctor because I've had 3 early miscarriages and she took bloods and it turns out I'm deficient in vitamin b12 and now I have to go for injections 3 times a week! Anyone else have to get this done?

See if you're feeling tired all the time, it might not be because you have to get up early every day or because you're just a bit lazy so don't be like me! Go and see your doctor about it Blush

Some medication (metformin) can cause vit b12 deficiency if taken over a long period of time.

Thanks walnut

I am on metformin for diabetes which is known to hamper the absorption of iron and b12. I am on b12 tablets which gives me 5000 times the daily need but allows my body to absorb enough b12 everyday.

I have never needed to have b12 injections.

My diet is heavy on animal produce, I had actually been thinking about cutting back because I eat meat at most meals and take a lot of dairy. The doctor said something about anemia too. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks and I'm not really sure why. To discuss the results maybe?

Im surprised by some of the comments here, it is up to the doctor to decide whether you take supplements or injections. I don't think it's as simple as taking a berroca every now and then and you'll feel better.

Thanks to those who have commented saying their diagnosis has been life changing! I really hope it is for me too.

I have pernicious anaemia. This means i have an autoimmune disease - my stomach cells attack the cells that make intrinsic factor which is the protein needed to absorb b12. I think this is the usual reason for a b12 definicieny? I self inject every other day

I'm low on B12, had an injection on Friday and taking supplements to see if it helps. I've got an autoimmune disease and absorption issues. I was toying with the idea of going vegan but I'm holding off until my foliate, B12 and ferritin improve.

@ConferencePear They just said it wasn't necessary. My body says otherwise!

Yes I take supplements, made a big difference to how I felt, slept
