Bed sharing safety advice

Hi

I'm posting here for traffic, I know there is a sleep topic but from previous experience it's VERY slow moving.

Hoped some bed sharing mums might be able to offer some advice, my 9 month old is a cot refuser, screams at the top of his lungs if put to bed in his cot, just will not settle. Therefore, I (single mum) have been bed sharing with him just to ensure we both get some sleep.

Whilst his movement and rolling was limited I was kind of comfortable with this (I am breastfeeding, so covered from that pov, now he can move I'm very much less comfortable in case he falls off the edge.

What can I do to make the bed safe? I don't have room for a mattress on the floor; I had considered bed guard/rails but these have a warning not to be used before 18 months; he will roll straight over pillows.

Any advice appreciated

I pushed the bed so it was flush against the wall and then I was the barrier! Didn't stop ds attempting to crawl off the end of the bed a couple of times but I chucked some big, soft pillows on the floor so if he fell it wouldn't be too bad (although he never did fall). You could also remove the bed frame entirely and put the mattress on the floor which has worked for friends of mine.

Is he a roller? Only asking because I bed shared with both my children and although the oldest could roll from about 9 months when he woke up in the evening/night he never did he just lay on his back and screamed so I was always in there with him as soon as he woke up.

With my second I have a video monitor on him so I can see the second he starts rolling around. I also put a pillow along the edge of the bed because I kind of think that might slow him down if he did go for it. But to be honest he mostly just sits up and starts crying if he wakes and I’m not there

He's a roller when he's awake (or half awake) and can move super fast.

I know advice is against the bed being against the wall due to suffocation risk in case baby gets stuck between mattress and wall.

The bed frame is one that can't be disassembled, think huge ottoman type bed.

My response reads like I'm dismissing your answers, I'm not really, I'm really grateful for suggestions :)

Even if he won’t sleep in it necessarily, is there space to side-car a cot to the side of the bed? So if he rolls, he will roll into the cot/cot bars instead of straight off the edge? We did that and pushed the other side of the bed flush against the wall.
Both kids bed shared for the first 2 years of their lives, and this worked perfectly for us!

We used a bed guard on one side, parent on the other.

My 9mo has been crawling for a couple of months (commando at first and then properly). When I sleep with him it’s in a bed against the wall and with me on the other side. There is no way he could get stuck between mattress and wall in our setup, I’m looking at it now and it’s just not possible. I wish he was still just rolling because he wakes me by using me as a climbing frame well before he gets anywhere near the edge of the bed!

Following as my baby thinks she is a sausage roll and I'm starting to get worried!!
