Does this meal sound nice? Or weird?

Cooking a nice dinner for special occasion tonight

Roasted pork belly slices
Creamy lightly garlic mashed potato
Balsamic and oil roasted tender-stem broccoli
Homemade apple sauce

I don't cook stuff like this ever. I think it's more the broccoli I'm worrying about, was going to just make normal roast but thought something different could be nice and stumbled across that recipe. Also not sure if with everything else going on should make normal mash rather than garlic? Belly pork is still roasting for another hour and a half.. but I'm stressing over everything else!!

Sounds delicious!! Made me hungry just reading it. I’d be delighted to be made that for tea. X

ZenNudist · 23/02/2019 18:08

It sounds great. Ignore the poster who thinks its a midweek meal. I wouldn't have time to slow roast belly pork midweek bding i have a job and 2 children and a husband who's always working away.

Anyway obvs its something you get in fancy restaurants.

Id roast the broccoli it concentrates the flavour and is lovely , splash of balsamic would work really well ( you can do similar with asparagus).

Whats for dessert?

ZenNudist · 23/02/2019 18:11

@PickAChew not gravy, 'jus'

Just do your brocolli plain or toss in some butter and put the dressing in a jug i would inhale that Grin

onalongsabbatical · 23/02/2019 18:12

I think the whole thing sounds delicious and I'd certainly feel it was special to have someone cook this for me. Hope it goes well OP!

Drogosnextwife · 23/02/2019 18:13

Only answering YOUR question, sweetheart! If you won't like the answers don't ask the question

Patronising much? OP wasn't asking if you thought it was fancy enough, just if it sounded like it went well together. Someone got a chip on their shoulder tonight?

MrsJayy · 23/02/2019 18:19

Saw your roasting your brocolli mis read but still dont put the balsamic in .

Suebnm · 23/02/2019 18:28

Can you let us know how it goes? The broccoli sounds lovely with the balsamic.

karala · 23/02/2019 18:30

cheddarandcrackers blowing someone else's candle out doesn't make yours shine any brighter, it just makes you mean.

Passmethecrisps · 23/02/2019 18:33

I think it sounds absolutely lovely. Like using sat nav, for the most part, I just trust what I am being told. If you have seen the whole meal put together like that as a recipe then I would leave it like that - someone else has done the thinking.

If you are a regular cook and used to mixing things up then change it.

I genuinely think it all sounds lovely and definitely special.

kateclarke · 23/02/2019 18:34

Some people in here are just so rude.

I think it sounds lovely and would be a special meal in my house.

MrsJayy · 23/02/2019 18:34

Oh we are atvodds about the Balsamic Grin

Bananasarenottheonlyfruit · 23/02/2019 18:36

Pork belly is only a mid week meal for those with too much time on their hands. Those of us who work don't have the time for the slow roasting required.

WombOfHerOwn · 23/02/2019 18:37

Sounds delicious to me. I’d love it if I was invited for a meal and that was what was presented. I love to cook too but that is not a midweek meal for me, no time!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 23/02/2019 18:37

Sounds lush. I might be tempted to leave the garlic out of the mash, especially if it is very creamy, as sometimes garlic/cream/carb can feel a little heavy. But everything else sounds amazing and definitely do the broccoli like that cos it's yum!

MyBreadIsEggy · 23/02/2019 18:39

Sounds good to me Smile
Although I’m with the majority in saying I’d leave the broccoli as just broccoli (I like it steamed so it still has a bit of crunch!) and serve the dressing separately.
The mash sounds really yummy!

formerbabe · 23/02/2019 18:39

It's a nice combo (if you like pork) otherwise but not really special, it's more a midweek meal

Only on MN Hmm

It is a special sounding meal to me.

Midweek dinners to me are stuff like spag bol, stir fry, sausage and mash.

Nanasueathome · 23/02/2019 18:41

Do you have any other veg to add to the meal?

iklboo · 23/02/2019 18:42

Someone got a chip on their shoulder tonight?

Only a heritage potato hand-cut triple fried one though.

dublinruth · 23/02/2019 18:49

@iklboo Grin

Tennesseewhiskey · 23/02/2019 18:51

OP it sound gorgeous.

I could eat that right now. Though, as pp suggested, I would toss the broccoli in butter and black pepper and do the balsamic in a jug. But that's personal preference.

Ignore the snarky people who can't comment without being arsey. Sounds amazing.

Fartingisfun · 23/02/2019 18:55

That sounds delicious!

It would definitely a special occasion meal in our house.

Mid week needs to take under half an hour from the fridge to the table for us because we have a life/are disorganised/don't care much/are slovenly peasants....

I didn't realise the thread was a domestic goddess competition and see no reason for people to be snobby about it. But if anyone is feeling competitive just know that I nailed the gourmet catering by sprinkling extra cheese on some Sainsbury's pizza for the family meal tonight...

I hope it comes out how you planned!

Grumpbum123 · 23/02/2019 18:57

Sounds fab I love pork belly. I hoe you enjoy it

StrugglingOn13 · 23/02/2019 18:57

@iklboo 😂😂

MortyVicar · 23/02/2019 19:02

If the pork is plain roast, and the apple sauce isn't gussied up with any spices or anything, then I think the potatoes with a light garlic flavour and the balsamic broccoli would be perfect. It sounds delicious.
