Front door colour inspiration...

Live on a now 20 year old "new build" estate. Until recent years, most houses all had the same white front door (glass panel with bits of red stained glass) which i was fine with and when we had it repainted, I stuck with white. People have now started painting them and I fancy a colour now as well as door is in need of a refresh. Street is still predominately white but we do have a bright red, a bottle green, royal blue and a more bricky red. In other streets i've seen a nice apple green and a yellow.

Out of those I like the blue and apple green best but was thinking a nice grey might be a bit more sophisticated... :o

What colour is your and what do you think I should paint mine?

Duck egg blue or sage green

Funnily was just looking at this:

www.dulux.co.uk/en/colour-details/fresh-sage

I have a lot of pale greens and duck egg/aqua colours in my house so I d o tend to be drawn to those but felt I should maybe be a bit adventurous.

Mine is a sort of suck egg blue. I like anything in the blue / grey region but also a nice classic red!

Pale green (called Chartwell), duck egg blue, cream & a fairly dark grey are popular, since they became available as composite door colours.

But I’ve also seen doors painted buttercup yellow, deep pink & bright orange Grin

As long as you like it & it suits your house you can have anything!

WaxOnFeckOff · 23/02/2019 16:27

Because of the red stained glass bits, I'd ruled out orange or pink... :o

Oh, meant to add this image to demonstrate.

But one of those Dulux machines can mix pretty much any colour there is so you don’t have to be restricted.

Ah - yes - that is a good point Grin

Our local B&Q has a valspar mixing machine I think. So I suppose there is an almost infinite choice. Probably too much and I'll still be here this time next year procrastinating...

Personally, I'd go for bright yellow. It's unfailingly cheerful.

Sadly we've a composite door and it's blue. It's OK but not the colour I'd have chosen.

We got Chartwell green composite 5 years ago, & 2 of our neighbours have now painted theirs the same (which can be confusing for visitors!)

Our old wooden door was painted dark blue, which looked nice until it started fading. Another neighbour has high gloss black paint - that’s very smart & doesn’t appear to fade.

WaxOnFeckOff · 23/02/2019 16:56

I quite like a nice classic black but I think it goes nicer when you have a nice big door rather than the bog standard new build type. Might go for a stroll about tomorrow and see if anyone has anything nicer further into the estate.

I read an article a few years ago saying that green was the "friendliest" door colour. So I'd say green!

RaiderOfTheKitchenCupboard · 23/02/2019 19:04

Ours is dark blue. The company who fitted it had a cool app on their website that let you upload a photo of your house and try different styles and colours of doors.

I also had a few walks around the area to see what other people’s doors were like.

Grey looks like an undercoat, and your just waiting to finish the job

Purple was my favourite colour. A deep one like a plum.
