Moving House - is this cheeky?

Never bought a house that wasn't empty before so wondered if anyone could tell me if I'm being cheeky here? In Scotland if that's relevant.

Had an offer accepted and we move in 7 weeks - just waiting on missives completing. New house is massively different to our current property in terms of age, size, layout etc. Is it acceptable to contact the estate agent and ask if the current owner would mind letting me pop in to measure windows? Just so I can organise curtains... would you mind if it was you?

Yes that's completely normal and I'm sure will be fine, just arrange via the EA.

Congratulations on your new house!

Not cheeky at all. Ive always let people come and measure up, etc before the sale.

perpetuallybewildered · 23/02/2019 15:28

My buyer came twice to the house to measure up to ensure her furniture would fit. I didn’t mind at all.

DramaAlpaca · 23/02/2019 15:29

Not at all, it's a normal thing to ask. Good luck with the move.

Twooter · 23/02/2019 15:29

Not cheeky but could potentially backfire if the sellers change their minds.

FlowerInTime · 23/02/2019 15:30

I wouldn't like it. I've never had anyone do this or considered doing it personally. The only exception was when I bought my current home(a new build) and the developers said they could arrange for that, without us asking.

Am down in South West and perfectly normal here. We’ve done it several times both renting and buying. Everyone has always been happy to accommodate.

KatnissMellark · 23/02/2019 15:33

Totally normal

pilates · 23/02/2019 15:43

Perfectly fine

Thanks all! Looks mostly positive (and I'm happy to do the same for buyer of our current home) so will give the estate agent a ring next week!

OP is in Scotland that is extremely unlikely to happen - housebuying is much more straightforward.
