If you are anti-zoo, do you visit any animal places at all or avoid all of them?

I am very uneasy about zoos and wild animals being kept in captivity. I don't go to the zoo and haven't taken my children.

However, there are a couple of places that have animals that we do go to. One is a small park with donkeys, goats, deer, various birds (including lots of waterfowl that live on the lake), rabbits, ferrets etc. and a small aquariam and terrarium.
The other is a working farm (where we get our eggs and milk from).

I've just been looking for places to go over half term (not in the UK so ours is later) and one place that many have recommended is an animal park. They have otters, lynx, elks, deer, reindeer, goats, foxes, owls, wild cats, raccoons, badgers, bison, wild boar and various fish and other birds.
I can't make up my mind.

How do you (personally) decide what's ok and what's not?

We aren’t anti zoo but selective. We take our kids to zoos that run extensive research, conservation and, education programs and have animal bred in capitivuty exclusively and good facilities for the animals. Yes it means that we only see a few species and many of them are not particularly exotic or exciting but we are supporting a good cause and having a nice day out as well.

same as gregory
do your research.
we are members of a good zoo and visit often.
lots of research taking place and the animals are in appropriate enclosures.

My favourite zoo is less popular because the animals are in big enclosures and they have lots of hiding spaces so you don't get to see even half of the animals. The most popular zoo is exactly the opposite, too many animals, very small enclosures and no hiding spaces.... poor things.
