Term time only working

Does anyone do this? I currently work part time on four days of the week (variable hours). I'm very lucky to have a lot of flexibility, I can swap days/adjust hours on an ad hoc basis very easily.

My youngest DC is starting high school in September, so I will no longer be restricted by the school run but there will be no after school club, which she currently does X2 days a week. Of course, she might have the option of doing clubs after school, but it's not child care. In the school holidays we've often used sportscamps/summer holiday clubs etc. Oldest DC (14) is now getting too old for these, but I don't really want to leave him to his own devices all day when I'm working.

Which brings me to the point. I'm wondering about whether I might see if I can swap to term time only working. If I've worked it out properly, I think I can do X5 short days a week to cover the same hours. I would still be home at around the same time DCs get home from school.

I'm just wondering how well people find this works in practice? It will save the hassle of trying to sort out the school holidays, but I'm wondering if I've almost left it too late for us to properly benefit from it? Do those of you that do it have younger children? Any thoughts please?

I work term time. I started to do it when I went back to work after youngest dc started primary school.

It works well for us as dh's job is unpredictable hours so it means I'm always available for school runs, weekends and school holidays.
Dc are now 9 and 10 and I'm thinking of looking for something year round but 3 days when youngest starts high school in a couple of years as they will be more independent then.

The downside of term time only imo is no time off without the kids around if that makes sense. I’m p/t all year round but currently work less days/more from home through the holidays which is working at the moment.

However I have the advantage of primary & work being virtually around the corner so can juggle pick ups etc. Who knows what it will be like with secondary.

I did this when my ds started school age 5 after I went back after my maternity leave with my second ds. It was brilliant and worked very well for us.
I’ve now gone full time because both boys are in secondary school and don’t need so much looking after.
I manage to get 2-3 weeks off during the summer holidays, a week at Christmas and Easter and one full half term off.
