Holiday - Disneyland Paris

We're looking at a holiday for 5. Me, DH, DD16, DD14 & DD2. Potentially looking at Centre Parcs Paris with 3 day park tickets or a stay in the Disney resort for the whole holiday.

If you've ever been can you give me your thoughts. Any hints, tips etc gratefully received! Thanks.

There’s a brilliant Facebook group called Disneyland Paris for Brits - loads of tips on there!

It’s been a few years since we went so I’m not much use sorry Blush

Echobelly · 22/02/2019 21:52

I recommend staying in the Davy Crockett Lodge - you'll need to hire a car to get to site, but we found car hire for a few days was hardly more than the coach from airport to park. DCL guests still get early entry etc like people staying on site and it has the big advantage that you can self-cater. We must have saved £200+ by taking in our own sandwiches etc for lunch, which you're not really supposed to do but no one checked. The food on site is super expensive and not great. You can buy a breakfast at DCL that is apparently very big and leaves you enough to snack on the rest of the day, though we didn't do that.

There's also a nice swimming pool on the Lodge site, which wasn't too busy, and overall it givens you a bit of a breather from the madness of the park.

I second Davy Crockett, it’s lovely and there’s a little resteraunt, pool, bar and shop on site. It’s cheaper than the other Disney accommodation and takes around 10 minutes to drive to the park. Again agree to take advantage of the early opening for Disney guests, you get on a lot more rides that way.

It’s Davy Crockett Ranch. Nobody will recognise Lodge if you ask for advice.

We do love it there though. Would be a bit of a squeeze for your party. All of the kids would need to be in one room with you in the other.

Disneyland parks for brits is amazing.

We went as a family of 7.
Stayed in Davy Crockett ranch
Drove across and booked the tunnel separately using Tesco Clubcard vouchers
Also booked the half board meal plan

We booked direct with Disney as they had the best deal at the time - 25% off & free half board meal plan. We then rang them after seeing the deal to check everything was correct.

We also checked the French school holidays to avoid going on them times too to make it cheaper.

Disneyland Paris for brits *

Sorry typo above lol

Chillyourbeans · 25/03/2019 12:21

FIL has asked me to book this for a family trip but has specified he wants a 'high end experience' - does such a thing exist? Complete Disneyland novice and since it's FIL's cash am reluctant to get it wrong. Asked same question in a Facebook group but got torn to shreds! Thanks in advance.

Nicknacky · 25/03/2019 12:25

Does it need to be Disneyland Paris?

We are doing to Efteling in Holland and the luxury lodges there look amazing and definitely high end.

Chillyourbeans · 25/03/2019 12:36

Efteling looks fabulous but he's set on Disneyland, not sure why. He's stubborn and not in great health (and paying!) so I think we'll have to let him take the lead.

strawberrylollipop · 25/03/2019 12:36

The best hotel that Disney offer is the castle hotel - think they do castle club which gives loads of food extras / character bookings & interactions

If you call Disneyland Paris direct on the phone they'll be able to help you with everything :-)

andadietcoke · 25/03/2019 12:41

'High end' is the Disneyland Hotel, and yes, there's Castle Club which is about £2k a night but includes character breakfast every day and a watching Illuminations from the hotel with the music piped in, and VIP fast passes, although Compass Club at Newport Bay is nice too and with suite level at any hotel you get the VIP fast pass.

We have annual passes so if you have any questions feel free to ask - we've stayed in all the hotels except Sequoia Lodge.

Hollowvictory · 25/03/2019 12:45

Stayed twice at Disneyland Hotel and once at Newport Bay.
Dibb website is great for advice

Chillyourbeans · 25/03/2019 12:49

This very helpful - thank you both! VIP fastpass - is that quicker access to rides? And his priorities are room service and a pool - would Castle Club offer this? It seems like crazy money to me and I think the kids would be just as happy camping but he desperately wants to do it for them.

Nicknacky · 25/03/2019 12:50

chilly That’s fair enough then. If you want high end then it will be nothing less than Disneyland Hotel you will be looking for.

Chillyourbeans · 25/03/2019 12:50

Thank you Hollowvictory, will take a look. This is much more civilised than the response I got on FB!

Nicknacky · 25/03/2019 12:51

What kinda responses did you get?!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 25/03/2019 12:55

We stayed in the New York 4 hotel at DisneyLand Paris about 4 years ago. It's a little walk from the park but the first hotel you get to. The 5 DisneyLand Hotel is right over the gates and to be honest that would have been better for my mum as she would have gone in/out of the hotel all day as it was right there (she wasn't into the rides or anything so spent some time in the park with our DD and some time reading the paper at the hotel). We also hired an onsite buggy for DD and paid an extra deposit to take it out of the park to the hotel. It was a good option for us as DD was 4yo, so too big for our home buggy and this was a large metal framed thing, ideal for tired 4-5yos.

We did half board, so had a big breakfast at the hotel, we had 'snack' vouchers for a drink and cake about 2pm then we had vouchers for dinner. You could either use your dinner vouchers for a set meal or you could put them toward the a la carte options. It was good because mum was paying but with two families plus mum and her partner, we could sometimes eat together, sometimes separately (we had a small child but my brother had no kids so they ate later). All the while, food costs were sorted so we didn't have to co-ordinate every day.

The DisneyLand Eurostar was excellent too, takes you right to outside the park and we booked to have our luggage taken to our hotel. We did have to queue to deposit it at the station, then we just went in with rucksacks and checked into the hotel that evening after we'd had dinner. All our luggage was in our room.

Nicknacky · 25/03/2019 12:57

purple New York is closed now and is being refurbed to a Marvel hotel. We stayed there last year just before it closed.

Chillyourbeans · 25/03/2019 12:57

Asked exactly the same question and got roasted for looking for high end! Apparently I'm missing the point of the magic. Tbh high end isn't a priority for me but FIL is 79 and wants to spoil the family.

Nicknacky · 25/03/2019 12:58

😂😂😂 That’s nuts. They have a thing about everything being “magical” at Disney and don’t like to accept that it’s just a theme park!

Furrytoebean · 25/03/2019 13:01

Stay in the Disneyland Hotel.

People will say it doesn't make a difference but we loved it so much.
Not having to walk back to the hotel and just the look of it was really special.
It also smells amazing.

If you can afford it do it!

Chillyourbeans · 25/03/2019 13:02

Purple, that's helpful, thank you. I think Eurostar would definitely suit us best.

IamPickleRick · 25/03/2019 13:02

Efteling looks amazing!!!!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 25/03/2019 13:04

Thanks Nicknacky, best not let DD find out about that, we definitely can't afford to go back there (although there are now more grandchildren, so potentially my mum might feel another trip coming on!!).

I think the half board vouchers made it work really well for us as a family group. We ate together the first night in some USA styled dinner outside the park (I think rollerskates might have been worn, or maybe I imagined that), then we had a character dinner (not to be repeated and was purely for my mum and DD!!). The rest of the time we ate separately but met up around the park.

We got my mum's partner on a rollercoaster (in his late 60s) and spent a fortune on all the photo gifts for him Grin possibly the highlight of our whole trip.

Nicknacky · 25/03/2019 13:07

IamPickleRick I can’t wait! We have a eco lodge that we are staying in for 4 nights and is costing about £550, trying to push H for an upgrade though!
