ladybirds - loads of lovely ladybirds

after seeing very few last year, our slowly spring awakening garden is absolutely chock full of ladybirds! Ds brought the washing off the line today and I have since removed several ladybirds which were pootling round the bedroom. I love them and am happy to see them, but has anyone else noticed this? We are in Central Scotland

Are they the harlequin ones that leave sticky crap everywhere or the traditional British?

StrongTea · 22/02/2019 20:00

Same area, saw lots today and a big bumble bee.

They're a bloody pain! I don't know how they get in but every year I get loads in my house... it's already started this year.. leaving little yellow spots on my white paint work

traditional British ones. I have an irrational love of them and was sad to see so few last year.

We saw a bumble bee, some honey bees and a butterfly (possibly a moth?) yesterday and when we got home the ants in the garden were active too.

Not seen any yet but there were loads of huge dozy bees in the garden today!

dementedma · 22/02/2019 20:09

shipwreck moths have feathery antennae and butterflies have straight ones with knobs on (ooh, matron)

Big fat old bumblebee flew past me today. Cheered me up no end.

That's interesting, I didn't know that dementedma. I didn't get close enough to see its antennae though because it was flying away. It had red on it so I wonder if it was one of those cinnabar moths?
