Is it normal to physically feel this way 9 weeks after having a baby?

I'm 36 and had my third baby. So this may be an age thing.

My baby is 9 weeks, I've lost nearly all the baby weight and I'm not overweight.

However my body hurts.
Sitting on the floor and getting up hurts my joints, my muscles are weak, my body is weak and achy.

I feel very well in myself the baby is stressful but generally sleeps well at night (at worst he wakes every hour, I've endured much worse with my other kids).

My body just feels so broken whether I've slept well or not.

Is this because of having a baby in my mid 30's?
Both other kids I had in my 20's.

I think it’s a 3rd baby thing. I had all my 3 in my 30’s and my 3rd took me by far the longest to recover from. Not in terms of weight, not even in terms of recovery from birth, but I spent 3 months feeling like I was dragging myself threw quicksand Flowers

I felt like this but I had spesis so that’s not a good comparison. Maybe see your doctor as you maybe lack in some vitamins and minerals.

It could be that you have a virus.

It also could just be an age / 3rd child thing. I have four children, I was 38 when I had my youngest and could really tell I wasn't as young as I used to be. Plus you have other siblings to look after whilst also caring for a new born- it all takes its toll.

Not sure it's a 3rd baby thing as I've felt like this since my first aged 29 and he's 13 now!

Sleep loss definitely makes me ache all over more, and was worse after baby no.2. And all the changes in hormones definitely can make you feel like this. I've been anaemic, vit D and vit B12 deficient on and off at various points in the last 13 years too, especially after giving birth, and always feel worse then.

It could well be a 3rd baby thing.

The actual pregnancy was a breeze, I assumed I would find it physically harder but I didn't at all.
I'm finding everything physically harder now though. I'm currently sat on the floor and will myself to move but I know it will hurt 😂

I do get anemic really easily. I better rule that out, thanks for the tip.

I would get a checkup at the GP if I were you. Lack of sleep can cause aches and pains and fatigue though so it might just be that

STOPSCRATCHINGTHECRADLECAP · 22/02/2019 09:59

I really don't think it's lack of sleep. I'm less tired now than when I was pregnant.

But I will call the GP and see if I can get a quick blood test.

It wasn’t lack of sleep with me either. It was the newborn baby + birth + 2 very young children to look after. I sat still a lot after my first baby. You simply can’t do that 3rd time around

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 22/02/2019 11:02

I was going to ask if you could be anemic. I felt similar after dc4 (I was 26) & that turned out to be the reason in my case.

STOPSCRATCHINGTHECRADLECAP · 22/02/2019 13:39

I never sit down. Ever. I got to sit down a lot with my last baby! That's very true.

I've made an appointment for a blood test next Tuesday. If that's clear then I will just put it down to the baby knackering my body.

Thanks for pointing that out.

STOPSCRATCHINGTHECRADLECAP · 22/02/2019 13:42

I mean, thanks for pointing out that I might need a blood test.

That last bit sounded really sarcastic!

Google post partum thyroiditis

I was like you when I was thyrotoxic when baby was approx 6wk to 6mths old

My third did me in! I was 36 when she arrived and have never been the same since. I have sciatica and other niggles and I'm sorry to tell you she's 18 months old.

She was a whopper. 9lb 15. And is still huge (2/3 year clothes) and I think it's lumping a heavy child while running after the other two that's hot to me.
