I have a disabled dd and part of her disabilities is a bowel condition where she can't point properly. On Wednesday she was in pain and required a clearing out...sorry tmi this early...I was due to work that evening and couldn't go in as dd needed me.
So I rang work and explained and spoke to my manager. he was not happy and said I would be put in the system whatever that means.
Only been there five months and had one other day off just after Xmas for sickness.
Now my anxiety is playing up and I'm due in tomorrow and expecting to be sacked...am I over reacting.
May take a while for me to reply as dd will be up soon.

Could you have gone in late?
Who was looking after your daughter whilst you were at work? Could they not have done whatever was necessary?
You are entitled to time off for dependents but that should be only what is required. I don't know how long the procedure you are talking about takes but does it take up your whole shift?

In my job, three unique periods of absence triggers an attendance review. Your employer has to make sure that your absences are not job related as they have an obligation to try and make sure your needs are being met (as far as is reasonably possible.)

I don't think two periods of absence would immediately trigger dismissal! If you're worried, ask to see the absence procedure/policy for piece of mind.

Dd is 18 and can be left on her own so I don't have anyone looking after her as she's very capable.
Depends when she is clear on her bowel movements and I am classed as her carer so could always use the carers act if they get funny.

This also is quite rare but when a blockage does happen it means a lot of meds and quite a lot of showers.
She has been in hospital a few times and is due a operation soon to help her a bit better.

I doubt you’ll be sacked.

I am sorry to hear that your DD is unwell.
However, I think that perhaps if I were you, I would be preparing for cover should the incident arise again.

I think that you need to explore this as only you can in terms of your options because your employer may well get pissed off should you need to take time off again for the same reason.

Whilst every sympathy is there, your employer is relying on you to turn up and to work.

It’s very difficult and I have every sympathy for you.

Good luck.

You do have some rights as a carer, but in reality after such a short period of employment they could easily use a non related reason if they wanted to get rid of you. That's not to say that they will, but that many employers see disabled people and carers as a liability, and as much as they might claim to be disability friendly, they're really not.

That's the worst case scenario though, they may do nothing at all.

It sounds really tough for you and I hope things are ok.
Is there any flexibility where you could make the hours up instead of it being marked sick.
We are allowed to do that at my place of work but obviously it depends what your role is.

Yes tbh they have been fair. I've already done quite a bit over over time this month so that department s ok and I do have a carer pop in if she's I'll but she's on holiday this week but yes I will be getting additional cover now as it's not fair on them.
I will probably have a meeting tomorrow about this and I'll tell them my plan and get it in place thankyou all
