Anyone want to keep me company whilst I’m in A&E?

Anyone still up? I’m sat waiting to be seen in A&E and I’m bored out of my mind!

PeanuttyButter - a fit doctor would definitely make my evening a bit more enjoyable Grin.

Thanks EssentialHummus I’ll take a look.

No, I’ve not been triaged yet. I know there are plenty of bigger emergencies so I’m not being pushy about it at all. But I feel shivery and sick and I’m just really eager to get back home! Sort of tempted to hobble out and come back in the morning!

Shockers - I’m sorry to hear that, I hope your DD is okay?

I’ll be getting a taxi home. My DP is asleep in bed Hmm.

Poor sausage! I've just been discharged from a week in hospital. If it turns out it needs resetting and you end up admitted a couple of tips:

Oramorph is beautiful, beautiful stuff. Take what's offered and don't be afraid to ask for more!

The nurses are dead set on giving you an injection in your abdomen each night (it prevents blood clots in the lungs when you're bedbound, so necessary!) but ask for it in your arm instead because it's no big deal at all there but painful in your middle (IME)

There's no blooming wi-fi (not on my ward anyway!) so get your OH or whoever will bring your stuff in to bring a bunch of DVDs (old ones you know by heart and don't have to pay attention to) and earphones so you don't disturb the other patients.

If you do stay in you'll want all the lipbalm you can get

Loads of luck, I hope it turns out not to be as dramatic as it looks!

Maybe asking them for a blanket and a sick bowl might get you bumped up the list? At least you’ll be warmer if not!
Worth a try before you give up and go home, you’ll have to start all over again in the morning if you leave now Sad

If you fancy googling (not self diagnosing!) it would be the Ottawa ankle rules.

PoliticalBiscuit · 21/02/2019 23:58

Ask for a blanket and to be triaged so you can get some pain relief. Sounds awful.

Chocaholic96 · 21/02/2019 23:58

Thanks for the tips Furry. I hope you are better now after your week in hospital?

I might ask for a blanket, but I don’t want to push in. There are people who are actually unwell rather than just clumsy like me Blush.

Sympathies OP. This was me this time last year. Had to drag poor old DS with us as well as not old enough to leave at home and hospital over 30 miles away. A&E late at night was definitely an education for him Shock

Thought I had broken my ankle but turned out I had torn ligaments instead. Very painful.

Hope you get seen soon

Chocaholic96 · 22/02/2019 00:04

Thank you. Ooh I’m off to be triaged now... yay!

Keep us updated op!

I broke my ankle when we were at our caravan 10 years ago as now. I had been sat with my legs curled under me, went to stand up to adjust the heating & went down like a ton of bricks with a very loud snap. My legs & feet were numb & collapsed under me. Luckily we were somewhere with an excellent A & E department, I did it at 7.20pm, the ambulance was there by 7.35pm, I was in hospital by 7.50pm, x-rayed & a backslab pot on before 9.00pm, back in the caravan in bed before 9.30 pm. I had to wait 2 days for the swelling to subside before I got a full pot put on, 12 weeks in pot as I had a double spiral fractured fibula, luckily it hadn't moved & didn't need surgery.

Miljah · 22/02/2019 01:11

A pot??

That has to be a very localised word!!

MustShowDH · 22/02/2019 01:22

See now I'll have to add this to my watch list to see what you've done!

BlackeyedGruesome · 22/02/2019 01:33

Is it?

Rememberallball · 22/02/2019 04:06

My Huddersfield bred cousin used the word Pot for a plaster cast and it’s quite a common term with northerners (I used to be a nurse in A&E and applied casts and backslabs somoften heard the names used by many different communities)

nervousbreakdown · 22/02/2019 04:11

Another wondering how you are ... I had a colleague broke her foot at work once after a porter ran over it with a bed . She managed a ten minute walk or so on it , God knows how, then came back , said that she’d broken her foot and collapsed bless her . No idea how she managed that walk , I’ve broken mine on both sides and wasn’t able to walk at all .

Other interesting foot injury , a friend who was mowing a hill in an odd position or something .. managed to fall and landed badly on both feet - both heels shattered 🤢😫 .

Mrspimplepopper · 22/02/2019 04:12

How are you op?

SneakyGremlins · 22/02/2019 04:29

Hope you're home and asleep! Or being treated.

Chocaholic96 · 22/02/2019 04:59

Hi all, sorry my phone died whilst I was in the hospital. I’ve just got back. It was broken in two places Sad. But luckily I didn’t need any surgery! Thank you so much for keeping me company and I hope you all got some sleep!

I’m in A&E too!!!!!!!

pinkgloves · 22/02/2019 05:23

Oh dear! Heal quick.

Grumbling · 22/02/2019 05:23

OP, OUCH!!!!! Hope you heal up quickly. I broke my leg years ago. I bought a gardeners tool belt, kept handy stuff in it (phone etc) as you can’t carry stuff whilst on crutches. Tea can be made, decanted into a thermos, carried around the house in your tool belt and then decanted back into a mug (also carried in tool belt) - same with cake/Tupperware. I have all the important info here! Grin

Bacardi - I hope you are ok.

Bacardi101 · 22/02/2019 05:33

Sorry to hear about your broken foot I hope you feel better soon! Glad your home now though OP

Steeve · 22/02/2019 05:38

Oramorph is beautiful, beautiful stuff

It's really not. It contains so little morphine it's not a controlled drug.

The nurses are dead set on giving you an injection in your abdomen each night

Ask to do it yourself, I've been in 50+ times in the last couple of years so they just hand it to me now...

Good luck OP, I'm trying to convince myself I don't need to get myself to A&E now, when really I know I do.
