.... I’m crap at baking so won’t be making it. Wanted something a bit more special than a supermarket one. It’s being brought out in a restaurant ..... any recommendations? I work in London so if anyone knows of anywhere there?

I ordered one from marks and spencer, just a bit nicer than the supermarket off the shelf.

Although knowing my teens, they would be happy with a Colin the caterpillar Grin

We have used the photo cakes from Asda for birthdays. You can get some sugar paste decorations to add around the photo and make it look a bit more special. For an 18th an embarrassing baby pic could be a good option!

Can you get to a Costco?

MadisonAvenue · 21/02/2019 09:29

I’ll also recommend the photo cakes from Asda. They’ve always gone down really well with my teens.

Look at cakestoday.co.uk. The cakes are really good and look nice and they are lovely to work with. They will do pretty much anything and somehow get it to you ridiculously fast. It’s not the cheapest option but even their more simple cakes look good so you don’t have to spend a fortune.

Patisserie Valerie, Caffe Concerto or Konditor and Cook.

I'd get a nice supermarket chocolate cake and then buy a box or two of nice chocolates and decorate with the chocolates.

It's easy and simple and looks good.

I would go for a Costco sheet cake and decorate it yourself. If you Google or Pinterest there are loads of ideas. I like them covered in decent sprinkles- Scrumptious Sprinkles does a range called sprinkletti which looks fab, or rainbow sprinkles could be good.

Collin the caterpillar is the only cake to have. I still have one and I'm 37! (The Birthday person gets to eat the face.)

I actually prefer Tesco's version of Colin the Caterpillar - you really can't go wrong with it. Get a sparkler 18 candle and away you go.

Cake box (eggfreecake.co.uk)

For a special birthday you can’t beat Konditor & Cook

Lindtnotlint · 21/02/2019 12:34

Konditor & Cook is sooooo good.

Etino · 21/02/2019 12:41

Konditor and Cook ✅

I always order a Hummingbird bakery cake.

Stoplosingthedarnkeys · 21/02/2019 16:41

I have a friend in London who makes lovely cakes to order. Not sure if I am allowed to post a link on here but I have sent you a pm.

My mum got her cake from M&S and it was lovely - really moist with a good flavour. I also suggested she got mini Colins for her party which went down well.

The other thing might be to ask the restaurant. I used to work in a hotel and when friend's visited for their birthday I asked the chef to bake a cake (I paid). He was delighted to have something different to do.

Thanks all, I’m off for a google
