How late is too late to let the gas man in wearing pjs?

I’m waiting in for an gas engineer (tbf fair it could be a gas woman).

Would you let them in after 9 in pjs? I feel like after 9 is a bit insulting as in ‘haha your working and look at me I’m swanning about at home in comfort’ but between 8-9 is acceptable. As in ‘I’m at home having a leisurely breakfast seeing as I have to be in waiting for you’.

Thoughts?

I’m on half term so can always say pointedly ‘I’m on half term’ to excuse myself.

Anytime!

It's half term and unless I'm leaving the house I'll stay on my pjs all day if I canSmile

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/02/2019 08:57

If I know someone is coming I would get dressed personally. But if you really don’t want to then I’m sure they won’t care.

You do know that women can be engineers too? Grin

LooseSeal2 · 21/02/2019 08:58

If I’m in the house then bra is off & I’ll have my dressing gown on so i’d say anytime.

If you really wanted to make an excuse then night shift might work...

gamerwidow · 21/02/2019 09:00

I’d always get dressed wearing pyjamas in front of strangers makes me feel vulnerable for some reason. Probably because I associate them with privacy and sleep.

SneakyGremlins · 21/02/2019 09:01

I'd get dressed but then again only because I sleep naked and that would probably not go down well Grin

Debruary · 21/02/2019 09:01

I wouldn’t, I’d insist they were fully clothed with some kind of identifying badge.

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 21/02/2019 09:02

It's never too late. I frequently pop to out to our letterbox at 2pm dressed in my PJs, I work nights sometimes so my 2pm is like most people's 2am. If you are comfy in your PJs there is no reason to get dressed.

Floralnomad · 21/02/2019 09:02

I would always be dressed personally but if it’s more lounge wear than PJs then anytime of the day .

Bigonesmallone3 · 21/02/2019 09:04

I would be dressed..

'haha your working and look at me I’m swanning about at home in comfort’

I would be more concerned they are thinking..

'Lazy cow, it's not like I'm super early'

April241 · 21/02/2019 09:04

If I'm not going out I don't get dressed, just clean pyjamas or at the most leggings and a big jumper.

Maybe I'd go for the leggings and jumper if I had people in but if an engineer arrived at 9am and I was still in jammies I wouldn't change. The second I'm home it's bra off, jammies and slippers on!

PinguDance · 21/02/2019 09:05

Last time I was waiting in for a delivery, even with the tracking app I got caught out with him ringing the doorbell as I was mid bra putting on so now I’m aware that whenever I do get dressed they will definitely arrive then and I’ll have to dash out looking flustered and it’ll look like I just got up anyway.

I feel like there must be female gas engineers out there... but nowhere I have ever seen one. Maybe I’ll speculate on this while I wait.

Mine's female!

Well the one who usually comes round is Grin

PinguDance · 21/02/2019 09:06

@debruary haha, sound advice.

ASauvignonADay · 21/02/2019 09:07

I would probably get dressed for gas man - my last one was here quite a while!

That said, if I am caught by postman or whatever I feel I need to excuse myself by saying "I'm on half term!"

PinguDance · 21/02/2019 09:10

What I really want is a shower and then to get dressed but that’s a dangerous game

WanderingTrolley1 · 21/02/2019 09:10

Never.

Sirzy · 21/02/2019 09:12

I would always make sure I was up and dressed before the start of the allocated time slot

gayandokay · 21/02/2019 09:14

I'm the nicest way possible, no one cares! It's your home so why are they going to judge? Just stay in your pajamas all day if I were you 🤷🏻‍♀️

PinguDance · 21/02/2019 09:16

@sirzy 8 o’clock in the holidays though Sad I got up before 8 in case they did arrive at the start - obviously they didn’t

I read the thread title and thought, "Hang on, why is the gas man wearing pjs??" Grin Grin

hiddeneverything · 21/02/2019 09:24

I am a pj wearer until I have to get dressed (in pjs just now) and have no shame about answering door in pjs. Your excuse is that you had to wait in so thought you'd enjoy lazing about for a while. Also, for part of my job I do call on people unexpectedly, so trust me, the gas-gender-non-specific-person will have seen much worse as I have personally seen it all

PinguDance · 21/02/2019 09:35

I got dressed- my granny would be pleased I won’t be letting a strange (?) man into the house in my nightwear. Now I’ll be weirdly excited if it is a woman, although the fear of judgment over my tea making will remain and whether or not I should hover about or disappear...

OP posts:
Bloomini · 21/02/2019 10:24

Haha I thought the same WorralibertyGrin

They really won't have thought about in such detail OP, don't sweat the small stuff. Wear what you please!

Tinty · 21/02/2019 10:31

You do know that women can be Engineers too? Grin

This is true, I had an Engineer come to repair the boiler. It was a woman, she was great, explained everything as she did it. She told me she was 1 of 4 women Engineers that worked for the company she worked for and there were 160 odd men. So your likelihood of your Engineer being a woman is quite small I expect. Sad
