sorry if this is not the correct place, have been thinking that we could do with a proper SEN and parents of SEN kids section on here, correct me if im wrong but there's a a few sections scattered about but not one with a few sections together like general chat, support, parenting could be parenting SEN kids,teens,adults....a section on support during the DX process, practical advice on dealing with behaviours meltdowns, support and advice to transfer an adult child to residential care? etc I just feel like it might be a good idea. not sure what im asking just if anyone agrees???

I was under the impression that there is one, it just doesn’t show up in active?

Nnnnnineteen · 20/02/2019 09:31

Is the whole Special Needs section insufficient?

Tcel · 20/02/2019 09:32

why does it not show up in active

OP posts:
merrybloomizoothief · 20/02/2019 09:40

because the parents who use it requested that it didn't
they were sick of people who knew nothing about their situations chipping in to conversations with unhelpful comments

AornisHades · 20/02/2019 09:40

Because there was a problem with trolls so it got less obvious a target.

Tcel · 20/02/2019 09:41

Because then you get people jumping in like it's aibu without reading what topic it's in. If it's not in active you have to actively go to that section so know why your there type thing, is what I believe is the reason.

BertieBotts · 20/02/2019 09:44

You can opt in for it to show in active. It's hidden by default because people don't read section titles so you get ignorant people stomping onto the thread shouting about what an ineffectual/horrible/lazy parent you are because they haven't appreciated the child has special needs and/or they don't understad what it's like to have a SN child. Also it's nice to be able to post without specifically having to go into war and peace about your child's diagnosis and history every time. When you know the only people who will see the thread are people who have specifically opted in to see the SN threads, it's a bit more of a safe space.

birdsdestiny · 20/02/2019 09:44

I am not a parent of a child with SEN but I have been on a number of threads about the issue and the attitudes towards children with SEN were frequently awful. I felt battered reading some of the responses so can't imagine how the parents felt. Completely understandable that they wanted it removed from active.

BertieBotts · 20/02/2019 09:44

Or really unhelpful comments "Have you tried a sticker chart?" :o :o :o

staydazzling · 20/02/2019 09:48

oh right i did wonder if it was to filter out the AIBU idiots Hmm well some are idiots

BertieBotts · 20/02/2019 09:54

It's in Customise but you have to be on the desktop site, I think.

staydazzling · 20/02/2019 10:10
