Silly question re receipt

Have just had two gardeners doing a job in my garden (which I could not have done myself Blush). Was given an invoice and paid immediately in cash.

Should I have asked for a receipt? What if he forgets that I paid and then chases the money - unlikely I know.

Is it okay for me to text him now and ask him for a simple receipt?

Feel stupid and don’t want to offend him but will worry now.

How much was it? If it makes you feel easier you ask him to text proof of payment.

Of course you can ask for a receipt. He'll probably email one to you.

Then you 'forget' he even did the work and say you have never seen him before.

Just text him your email address and ask him to send your receipt. He won’t think anything of it I’m sure.

Thanks - have texted him.

My dad is a self employed gardener and he's never given receipts as he always takes payment at the time so that doesn't sound unusual to me. He wouldn't be offended if he was asked to and certainly would provide one if asked.

Def text to ask for a receipt. I was extremely glad I had when out of the blue my ex gardener sent me a nasty letter to say I owed him £600. It was quite satisfying sending a picture of the receipt back to him.
