I've fallen down a very expensive rabbit hole...

I was only looking for plastic animals for school topics, and now i've fallen head first down a Schleich rabbit (and other animals) hole.

Oh my goodness they're lovely and so detailed for such small figures, but the price Shock

3 dinosaurs selling for £20+, a panda and her baby for nearly £10 delivered to my door.

Now i've seen them, other plastic animals just look crap and cheaply made in comparison. Yet if I ever bought any, I would be too tight to actually give them to the children to play with. Grin

No, don't. Put it this way: Jesus was an orphan for about five years until could afford his parents. Grin

toomanyofthemnow · 18/02/2019 19:26

I see your schleich sloth, and raise you a schleich snake... it lives in our Harry Potter corner Blush

IceRebel · 18/02/2019 19:32

Fucking hell Macavity a single wizard figure sold for £129

All you lot are doing is making Schleich prices look reasonable... you're all enablers. This time next week i'll have a sloth hanging from the ceiling, a snake in my boot and goodness knows what else. And I won't even worry about the kids at work playing with them, because they're cheap don't you know. Grin

A friend of mine always requests Schleic figures for her children’s Christmas and birthday gifts whenever friends and family ask her for suggestions. They have a lovely collection now.

Snowmaggedon · 18/02/2019 19:39

Schleich fantasy are stunning.

LetsSplashMummy · 18/02/2019 19:40

They are lovely, maybe you could ask the parents if any of them have any schleich animals at home, unplayed with, that they'd be happy to donate. If our school did that I'd send in the doubles we have.

Also the advent calendars can be a cheaper way, out of season, to get some.

Calzone · 18/02/2019 19:41

We have bazillions of these.

My boys are 16 and 14 but I’m not getting rid of them.

MissRainbowBrite · 18/02/2019 19:43

My daughter fell in love with Schleich Horses when she was about 3. I would dread to add up the value of her collection now, I'd guess at around £300. We have unicorns, dogs, rabbits and various wild animals. They really are beautiful and so well made. DD has the Schleich treehouse on its way for her 7th Birthday this week after having the stables, vet van and horse trailer for Christmas. It's a very slippery, expensive slope.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 18/02/2019 19:46

They're not generally that expensive Ice but some of them do become collector's figures. Plus, I live in Germany where you can sometimes pick them up a bit cheaper. Well, that's my excuse ...

Lalalalalalalalaland · 18/02/2019 19:47

Don't google osthiemer or holztiger.

We have a rather epic holztiger collection but my kids pref3r unicorns and pj masks but i keep buying them fo them me

TeenTimesTwo · 18/02/2019 19:49

They are lovely and good play value. DD2, 14(!), wanted a pack of wolves for Christmas.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 18/02/2019 19:50

The Schleich figures are so worth it though. They're timeless and it would be easy to spend the same amount of cash on Sylvanian Families or similar that don't have half the charm and longevity.

IceRebel · 18/02/2019 19:55

Waterlemon That's a great idea, some family already buy me teaching / school supplies so asking for plastic animals won't raise too many eyebrows.

Snowmaggedon I haven't seen them yet, just animals and dinosaurs. Do they do fairies and mermaids oh and dragons, please tell me they have dragons my kids and I bloody love them.

LetsSplashMummy Asking parents is a good idea, but I don't feel I could be specific enough to just ask for schleich. So if I asked it would be for generic animals / dinosaurs, and the cheap ones don't really last very well. (We have some ELC at the minute though which is ok in the water and sand)

Calzone I would love to see pictures, I had no idea they made so many different animals. I've just seen a skunk. which I now need in my life

Schleich bayala

IceRebel · 18/02/2019 19:58

MissRainbowBrite Hold up a second, a tree house, stables and vehicles. They do buildings and accessories as well? Shock

Macavity I'm glad to hear that isn't a typical price. They are really lovely figures though, I bet your nativity scene looks amazing.

Lalala Too late I googled Ostheimer, but what is this holztiger you speak of? I must not google, I must not...

icerebel I first met them at a playgroup where they were there to stomp in play doh. The lady running it said they had been through her two children are we’re still looking like new. They really are very good quality apologies for enabling your habit!

BlueMerchant · 18/02/2019 19:59

We have a few of the dinosaurs. Had them 6+ years and they have been bashed around by my son and a handful of friends but are pristine condition.
Our large wolly mammoth however, hasn't lasted well.Had around 2years. It's all scratched and paintwork coming off.

MissRainbowBrite · 18/02/2019 20:00

I can highly recommend Toys and Learning website for Schleich figures. Delivery isn't cheap but we've had lots from there and orders are sent out same day and prices are usually much cheaper than anywhere else.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 18/02/2019 20:00

Are these what you mean? They dont seem to expensive here.

Not that expensive, one figure is 4-8 pounds Shock. It would cost so much money to have enough to set up a zoo, farm or other small world scene.

They are lovely and fortunately can often be found in charity shop toy baskets or at carboot sales if you are lucky. I know what you mean about the attention to detail, I like that the animals often vary in sizes according to how big the real animal would be which is a lovely touch when encouraging children to sort by size. Grin

MissRainbowBrite · 18/02/2019 20:02

Ooh yes @IceRebel and the quality and detail is just as stunning on them as the animals. Take a look at the website recommended (if your bank balance can take it)

IceRebel · 18/02/2019 20:03

TeenTimesTwo That's so lovely that your daughter still enjoys the figures at her age. Who wouldn't want a pack of wolves. I do

Hedwigsradio Yes those are the ones, and it might not seem expensive but when you're catering for a class of children the prices would soon start mounting. Especially since it would be out of my own pocket. One elephant at £5.99 is pricey but doable. 5 elephants as part of a zoo / wildlife scene would be nearly £30, and that's before you add other animals as well.

Snowmaggedon A quick look shows that's their fantasy line, is that correct?

ProseccoandPizza · 18/02/2019 20:04

My best friend and I bought the farm animals for my DS(8) when he was a toddler. I kept them all safe in case she had a child because we spent so much on them!

toomanyofthemnow · 18/02/2019 20:05

I have now fallen for a schleich chameleon, to go with the schleich sloth and the schleich snake.

IceRebel · 18/02/2019 20:10

KarineAimee Hmm stomping in playdoh, animal tracks. My mind is trying to justify the cost. It's educational, honest.

BlueMerchant That's interesting, so some animals are more durable than others. Anything else you've noticed that has been worn out much quicker?

HeadsDown I best get rooting in the charity shops, how do you know if it's a schleich figure? Although not sure about those carboots. They start too early
