Rash on face

halibut20 · 17/02/2019 21:22

Does anyone know what might be causing this rash? It has appeared on both cheeks, chin and nose, is very hot but not itchy. I thought maybe allergic reaction but I haven't eaten or touched anything different to normal today...

The pics don't show how red it is - it is like big red blotches all over cheeks. Thanks in advance!

Looks like slapped cheek disease

halibut20 · 17/02/2019 21:27

@Fettuccinecarbonara ah I didn't think adults could get that. Are there other symptoms? Feeling generally unwell, temp etc? My face feels very weird!

It’s uncommon in adults because it’s often encountered as a child. Your skin looks youthful! I’d assumed your picture was of a child!

The rash starts in the cheeks and can spread to body and limbs. You can feel unwell and have conjunctivitis, sore throat, swollen glands. I normally see it in children, and am not a doctor so I don’t know how unwell adults feel. In children it varies from them feeling absolutely fine, to having cold-like symptoms.

I understand adults who are pregnant or who experience strong symptoms ought to see a doctor.

I hope you’re ok.

@Fettuccinecarbonara thank you - very helpful. I don't feel unwell apart from usual run-downess but will keep an eye on it. I am an adult!! Glad my skin looks youthful though!! It's just come on very suddenly so a bit odd. My eyes feel a bit puffy too which is why I thought maybe an allergic reaction. Oh the joys of weird illnesses. Thank you!

My work colleague was diagnosed with cellulitis after starting with a rash on her cheek. If it gets worse get yourself straight to the docs. She had to stay in hossy and get intravenous antibiotics.

Fettuccinecarbonara · 17/02/2019 21:38

It may well be an allergy, especially with puffy eyes.

If you’re worried, take some antihistamine, it won’t hurt. If it goes down, you’ll know it’s an allergic reaction and can spend some time working out what caused it!

If it doesn’t go down, maybe it’s slapped cheek!

I’m glad you’re not poorly

halibut20 · 17/02/2019 21:41

@Crinkle77 thank you - I will keep an eye on it

@Fettuccinecarbonara no antihistamine in the house annoyingly but will see how it is in the morning. It's probably one of those weird things that goes away as suddenly as it appears! Hopefully it will sort itself out. Thank you!Smile

Could it be rosacea?

halibut20 · 18/02/2019 11:22

@sproutsandparsnips ah yes I think it could be - google says it can be triggered by alcohol and spices food, both of which I consumed last night!

It has gone down today so don't think it's slapped cheek, thank goodness!
