Nitty gritty comb question

So if I combed infested child thoroughly once, then thoroughly combed again (better technique this time) 3 days later and found only babies /eggs. Then combed again 3 days later and found nothing....
Can I assume we are free and leave it a week before checking again?

Nope!

Every three days for at least a fortnight.

The life cycle is 3 weeks, so I always did it for 4-6 weeks just to make sure x

Ah bollocks.

I thought that as the nitty gritty removes eggs as well as the live, and no more are hatching, we might be clear?

I’ve never done as much rechecking as I see recommended on here and have had just three or four bouts of lice since dc started school in 2010, all short lived and eradicated with just nitty gritty. In your case I’d do one more comb through on Weds then leave it if clear.

Life cycle from hatching to being egg laying is 7 days.

Just be aware there may be infested DC at school and they may well bring home a fat one again soon enough Sad

Both times DD has had them, I've done it for about 6 weeks, 2-3 times a week. I presumed that I'd probably miss at least a couple of eggs & I didn't want to have to start again from the beginning. I've never used chemical treatments, just lots of cheap conditioner & a nitty gritty. DD has a lot of very long, thick hair. Nitty Gritty comb works fine but you have to do it properly.

I'm pretty sure my first attempt on the Wednesday was rubbish - was not combing each section from different directions or holding the comb right against the scalp before pulling through the hair. Friday's effort was much better and I'm pretty convinced I got everything. Yesterday and today found nothing.

Will check again Wednesday and Friday.
