I think there ies a big difference between an 11 year old and 16 year old penis

My best male friend had a circumcision when we were at school together, aged about 14.

I’ve never been that sort of friends with him so never saw it up close and personal but even he has admitted that maybe he didn’t need to take two terms off PE... he did have three weeks off school though.

This is the most confusing thread ever. Confused

dietcokemegafan · 17/02/2019 19:20

@bizzey what's the medical reason for the circumcision?

bizzey · 17/02/2019 19:21

@DrinkSangrianThePark why ..,? Everyone else understood it.

My dh had it done as an adult. A couple of painful days being very careful that nothing knocked/ touched him but then a quick recovery. Good timing for him as it's half term so no need for embarrassing explanations about why he's missing school.

bizzey · 17/02/2019 19:27

@dietcokemegafan ..fore skin is stuck basically and covering hole bit .

Hi OP when he is asleep they will probably give him a penile block which is lots of local anaesthetic around the area, then they remove the skin and use a few absorbable stitches and sometimes surgical glue. Sometimes a small dressing is wrapped around the top of the penis to stop any bleeding sometimes not. The procedure itself is generally not painful but the ward will give you all the post operative instructions when he is discharged. He will be fine Smile

I've known two male friends have circumcisions in their late teens/early 20s. Unfortunately it was quite uncomfortable for a few days (and embarrassingly sensitive for a long while after) but they are both pleased they had it done.

ManxomeFoe · 17/02/2019 19:37

My ex had this operation when he was 20 due to a condition called phimosis. It was fine, he avoided playing football for a few weeks and had warm baths in the first few days afterwards as that helped with the soreness, but it was a quick recovery and the health care professionals were very sensitive with him in hospital as he was quite embarrassed.

PurplePotato · 17/02/2019 19:47

One of my sons had this done at 16. Vaseline was helpful in the first few days, to stop the very sore parts sticking to underwear. So buy your son a big tub is my top tip.

Booboostwo · 17/02/2019 20:30

My DS has penile phimosis but he is much younger (4yo) and doesn’t have infections so we have been told to wait and see if it resolves itself.

We’re he to be circumcised we were told he would be in considerable pain for a few days and then would have to keep moving and stretching the skin for about a month after the operation which would also be painful.

Was none of this explained to your DS before making the choice to have the operation? There are also two options for the operation, they can try making an incision, but some people don’t like the consmetic results and sometime it doesn’t work so you have to go back for the full circumcision, or you can go for the full circumcision. Was none of this discussed with him?

That’s why cling film can be so useful. Completely non adherent to anything other than itself, cheap and very clean, soft and ‘comfortable’.

NeverSayFreelance · 18/02/2019 08:51

My friend had it done at 22 due to discomfort and it getting worse as he got older. It was about 8 weeks of recovery and now he's all good and much happier.
