Someone keeps putting dog shit on car

Just that really. Someone has taken to smearing their dog shit on my car door handles and wing mirrors, it's happened 3 times now.

I'm guessing it's someone who objects to me parking (LEGALLY) on this particular road.

What can I do? Is this illegal/classed as criminal damage? Was thinking of fitting a camera of some kind in the car but I'm not very technologically advanced!

Whenever there's a parking thread someone suggests smearing dog shit on the door handles of the offender but I didn't think people would actually do it! Maybe it's a seriously pissed off MNetter?

Honestly, how can people do it, it is disgusting. However I'd just park somewhere else rather than faff on trying to work out who's been doing it.

Suck it up - I live near a school and we get teachers, mums etc parking outside all day. We just park elsewhere, it's not that difficult.

combatbarbie · 19/02/2019 11:49

For those saying park elsewhere...why?? OP has stated the street has allocated parking for residents and she's LEGALLY parking in a non resident space! Get a dash cam OP and then show it to police, that is disgusting.

combatbarbie · 19/02/2019 11:50

I live in a street with 4 schools on same road, infants, juniors and 2 SEN, our road is full but as long as they don't block my drive I don't care.

Criminal damage had to be permanent damage

Just to flag, this isn't correct. If damage needs effort or expense to rectify, or affects the usefulness of the item then it is likely to be criminal damage. Temporary damage is enough.

I've been in a similar position Op, my car actually got spray painted along with several others parked completely legally along a road that led into an estate (wide road, no lines and not even in front of anyone's house). Someone kept stickering and painting cars and the police couldn't/wouldn't do anything as they somehow managed to avoid the dash cams that faced along the road. You should be able to park there but it really isn't worth the stress. Dash cam in the first instance just in case it helps but if it continues I'd probably just park elsewhere. They're utter bastards.

Does it really matter to posters who or how she suspects?

I'm curious to find out who she suspects and why. Is there something wrong with that?

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/02/2019 06:25

I'm not sure a dashcam would help as it won't show the sides of the car. I know it might capture a person walking in front of the car/behind it but Unless any footage is captured of them actually smearing shit the person can deny it and the police will say there's nothing they can do.

Voice of bitter experience after local teens scratched the fuck out the side of my car.

Sorry everyone, I didn't realise I had any more replies.

No I stupidly haven't taken any photos so far, was more concerned with cleaning it off but I will if it happens again.

Yes I am now carrying gloves baby wipes and a hone made disinfectant spray in my boot!

The lady I suspect is the only person I've ever seen in the street, she is always walking her dog and giving me filthy looks. I know where she lives and also which car is hers, the temptation to save a weekend worth of shitty nappies and decorate her car with them is becoming all too strong! However she could be completely innocent.

I parked there yesterday without incident, I did put a note in my car window saying 'I know who you are' though so that seems to have done the trick for now. I'm off work today but back in tomorrow so will update if anything else happens. I must admit I've been worried someone will do something worse like slash my tyres and am considering finding a different road to park in. Then my angry voice inside says why the fuck should I!! I don't want this twat to succeed in driving me away.

Good luck op. I think the note is a good idea - I liked a previous suggestion of mentioning you have a camera installed (even if you don’t). I hope you’ve done enough to make them think twice about their actions.

JenniferJareau · 20/02/2019 17:57

Good luck OP. It's horrible when you are targeted like this. Hopefully your note has worked.
