Have you been to Ikea on your own ...

... and if you bought stuff that you couldn't just carry to the car, who looked after your trolley while you went for your car? Or do you just leave it and hope for the best that no-one buggers off with your stuff?

I always go to IKEA on my own. This has never been an issue, even when stuffing a 3-seater sofa into a small hatchback. I don't know why not because I can't think of an answer to your question. Just go and don't worry about it - all will be well. Somehow. It always is. And you can have meatballs.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 16/02/2019 16:45

can't you just push the trolley to the car? Or am I missing something?

Kenworthington · 16/02/2019 16:46

I always go on my own. I take the trolley to the car obvs

PuzzlingPuzzle · 16/02/2019 16:46

Yes I’ve done it. Our local Ikea has a system where you have to leave your trolley outside the store, there are bollards preventing you from taking it to the car park, then drive your car round to the dozen or so spaces directly in front of that area and reverse in so you can load up. I suppose if you had a second person you could have them wait with the trolley but I’ve left it before and no one stole my stuff.

StellaMorris · 16/02/2019 16:46

You can take the trolley all the way to the car in Sheffield and Leeds.

GrumpySausage · 16/02/2019 16:47

I've often wondered this as my local Ikea (Nottingham) doesn't let you push the trolley past the drop off point- barriers to stop you.

So far it's not been an issue for me but I have noticed mine has big lockers you can leave your trolley in whilst you fetch your car. But there's only two of them.

NotMeNoNo · 16/02/2019 16:50

I just trust in peoples good nature and leave it. There are normally a few staff around the collection point rounding up trolleys.

MotorcycleMayhem · 16/02/2019 16:52

I dont understand. I've always taken the trolley to the car? 🤔

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 16/02/2019 16:52

If you can’t carry it to your car, how have you carried it from the shelf to the till and then to the door? Why is the final bit going to be a problem?

SoupDragon · 16/02/2019 16:53

I arrive early so I can park right by the store exit. I can either move my car whilst still being able to see my trolley or just take the trolley to the car.

RandomMess · 16/02/2019 16:54

The checkout staff arranged for a colleague to bring the trolley out and help load into the car.

Ainba · 16/02/2019 16:54

My nearest ones have trolley cages you can lock your stuff in while you go get the car.

MeOldChina · 16/02/2019 17:00

I went on my own when i was heavily pregnant and a member of staff helped me with all the lifting and loading into the car. I didn't even have to ask.

FindPrimeLorca · 16/02/2019 17:04

You have a trolley while you’re in the store Georgie, which enables you to transport large and heavy objects from the shop floor to the till. I’m assuming (from the fact that she’s asking) that the OP is planning on going to one of the many IKEAs where you can’t take the trolley from the store to the place where you’ve parked the car.

WorraLiberty · 16/02/2019 17:06

You can take the trolley all the way to the car in Sheffield and Leeds

That'd be a bit of a treck to the car if you live in London Grin

redexpat · 16/02/2019 17:14

I only bought small stuff that went in one bag.

SoupDragon · 16/02/2019 17:14

You can take it to the car in Croydon too so less of a trek for Londoners 😂

GoldenFlaps · 16/02/2019 17:14

Thank you all. Yes, my local one doesn't allow you to take your trolley to the car.

Mmm, meatballs Smile

Of course, I've never been to one that allowed trollies in the car park but all had cages to lock them in while you move the car to the pick up point

seven201 · 16/02/2019 18:46

Ooh a pick up point Ikea! Wow. I love going to Ikea on my own - I feel extra proud when I make it home with my car full of crap. I once bought a tall kitchen cupboard that was a few cm too big to fit in (didn't realise until I tried to get it in) and just left my abandoned trolley with large thing in by my car and ran to next door b&q and then sawed the end off (was going to be cut down anyway) by the car! You've made me want to go to Ikea now!

ShaggyRug · 16/02/2019 18:49

Ikea solo is THE best! Browsing as long as you want without other people sighing. Bliss Grin

Mine allows you to take the trolley to the car. How odd that some don’t allow it? That makes no sense at all.

Mokepon · 16/02/2019 18:49

Staff are usually very helpful.
IKEA is infinitely more pleasant by yourself.

Toastisfun · 16/02/2019 18:51

Yes, my local one doesn't allow you to take your trolley to the car.

Probably because you have to pay for your stuff first....

PristineCondition · 16/02/2019 18:55

You can’t go to IKEA on your own!
You have to have someone to row with and ignore in the car home. It’s the law

Soontobe60 · 16/02/2019 18:57

Warrington Ikea is like this, but Manchester one is fab! Can get right to the car.
