and which are smaller ones?

All the usual suspects - eg aspidistra - seem to be quite big.

Thanks

It depends on what you mean by shade - most plants don't want to be in direct sunlight, but are from more tropical areas of the globe where the light levels are much higher. So they'll like shade as long as it's not miles away from windows iyswim.

Variegated plants need plenty of light as the non-green part of their leaves doesn't photosynthesise, so overall the leaf area is less efficient. So steer clear of those.

Peace lilies are quite good and generally easy to care for. Ferns are also a good bet. St Paulia and streptocarpus are small and prefer shade.

IME parlour palms last about 2 years looking good in a bathroom.

Not close to windows

Aspidistra going strong in hallway but they are famous for surviving on neglect and poor lighting.

Looking for something small than Parlour palms.

Unleash - are you referring to African Violets?

Ferns like low light and damp. They're not the easiest to care for but don't grow fast ( realistically nothing will go mad in low light), so will stay small. Adiantum, Nephrolepis, Asplenium, Asparagus will all do well. Zamioculcas or Platycerium too.

You can keep cacti and succulents in low light. It's not ideal, and Cacti will actually do better as some succulents ( rosette types mostly such as Echeveria) will become etiolated due to lack of light.

Pilea Peperomioides would be my final suggestion. They can be a bit diva ish and don't like draughts, or overwatering. But they tolerate low light quite well.
