Constantly hungry and need to lose weight

Ratatouille76 · 15/02/2019 17:01

I am so often hungry. I can eat dinner and still be hungry. I must be eating the wrong things. What healthy foods will fill me up?

Have also just had blood tests for absolutely everything

you might just be unlucky.

Your brain is supposed to measure your calories in and out and tell you you need to eat or stop according to that balance.

But its just a massive mush of cells and signalling...its not like its always accurate to the calorie.

Some people have brains that say 'stop' before they hit calorie balance...they are naturally slim and struggle to put on weight even if they have to for some reason.

Others have brains that say 'still hungry' when the calorie balance is already made. They are naturally going to gain weight.

It sucks.

If I eat according to when my brain says I need to or not I gain about a kilo every two weeks.

The fact I am not the size of a house is actually testament to my will power...but if you looked at me you'd just see a greed fat person with no self control....Sad

Look at Paul McKenna’s I can make you thin book.

It’s basically about eating mindfully.

Are you drinking enough water? Thirst is often mistaken for hunger.

AnnaMagnani · 15/02/2019 18:10

I feel the same when I eat sugar and carbs.

Have gone no sugar and v low carbs. First week - felt like death.

Every week after - can cheerfully eat 1000 calories a day and not really be hungry.

It's not lack of willpower, it's your gut hormones telling you that you are on the brink of starvation due to high insulin levels and that you NEEEED carbs.

Now eat small portions of full fat yoghurt, seeds, fruit, veg, beans and lentils, meat and fish. Have lost a stone. Check out one of Michael Mosley's books.

I think that might be right. Blood sugars a over the place. Which michael Moseley book do you mean? I've never known hunger like I get at the moment. It's awful. And no I'm not pregnant. Have had high blood sugar in the past.

If you constantly feel hungry, never feel full, feel like you can just eat and eat and eat- it's a keg stmptom if being insulin resistant.

Poster above mentioned Michael Mosely, if you'd like to know more please check out our blood sugar diet thread (and fast 800, the new book!)

Does that mean I'm going to be diabetic?!!

Are you eating enough fibre, protein and healthy fats? Are you still hungry or just not full? I'm only really full if I'm eating out and the portions are too large. I could easily eat more after a normal dinner at home but I'm not hungry.

Ratatouille76 · 15/02/2019 18:42

Just feel like I've totally lost my way and don't know what to eat. Husband has just given up meat which makes it harder. I want to eat meat and so do kids and I also don't want to be preparing lots of different meals.

I find a lot of greek yoghurt a really satisfying snack. Full fat, high protein. Big bang for the calories.

I like it as-is but add a few drops of vanilla essence if you want extra sweetness.

Also, I've found it takes 15-20 minutes for my stomach to register "full" sometimes - especially if I've been eating something really tasty, so give yourself a bit of time before you decide you need more to eat.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/02/2019 19:03

Ratatouille well, lots of people will end up diabetic if they continue to eat the huge quantities of sugar that's in everything.

Ratatouille76 · 15/02/2019 19:06

I need to change what I'm eating I think. What do you have for meals if you have no carbs? I'm not fussy and eat anything. Also just realised I have michael Moseleys 8 week blood sugar diet book.

I just don't have the rice/potato/pasta and have veg instead. I do eat carbs, just not the really refined high GI ones. Tonight I'm having a Ghanaian chicken and peanut curry, Dh and dd are having rice, I'm having mixed veg.

halfwitpicker · 15/02/2019 19:15

What everyone said, low carb, higher fat.

Ex: Chicken in cream sauce, served with cauliflower and broccoli cheese.

AnnaMagnani · 15/02/2019 19:22

I've made a lot of the recipes from Michael Mosley's latest series in the Daily Fail - just put his name in their search bit.

After that I quickly got the jist and it's basically anything with beans in my house. It helps (although it is deeply irritating) that my DH is v skinny so I can make anything labelled 2 portions and feed him 1 and a half.

I did this Nigel Slater with pork and beans tonight with one massive pork chop - DH v happy and I just had a tiny bit of the pork chop, he didn't even notice it was gone. Previously we'd have had one each.

We have both been eating a lot of meat free meals as well and not missing it as everything has been tasty and filling.

What to eat when low carbing

Ratatouille76 · 15/02/2019 19:37

Thank you. Its finding meat free low carb meals that we can all eat. Thinking about meal planning makes my brain hurt!
