He was diagnosed in November and the initial advice was that he would go on active monitoring. A second biopsy has now established there's far more cancer than originally thought and he needs
a prostate removal.
I'd like to know the ins and outs please. He's being referred to have it done by robot. It's not likely to happen before May/June. He's not in any immediate danger as all they have found is grade 6- lowest.

What's the recovery really like?

Will he be ok hormonally?

Sex: I understand he'll be "dry firing" afterwards too, what's that like as his sexual partner?

It's been a devastating few weeks, a real roller coaster but we have held it together, just about. I'd appreciate talking to someone and getting the female perspective. He's only 47

I'm really concerned that he hasn't had any more tests other than an MRI to confirm spread.

With a 3+3 Gleeson score I doubt our health authority would do a bone scan.It is routine with a Gleeson 7. Was it an mpMRI? If so then I gather that is a decent diagnostic tool to see if the cancer is contained. Try not to worry because the prognosis with a 6 is very good indeed.

I'm not sure everyone loses penile length , my DH certainly hasn't in resting mode. A neighbour who overshares hasn't overshared that but I do know with Viagra they are still at it in their 80s and he had a radical prostatectomy 15 years ago. She is very happy with it all!

My dad had ca prostate & had a prostatectomy by the robotic device on the nhs.

He's now (cross fingers) 3 years clear at 71.

He's had no incontinence, he doesn't have a partner or girlfriend at present so obviously I've no idea about that side of things.

Dh was diagnosed with prostate cancer in early 2014 at the age of 68. He was put on hormone injections and then had radiotherapy in the summer. He stayed on the hormones for three years and because his psa was recorded as less than 0.1 he came off the injections in 2017.

He has psa tests every 6 months and if the level rises he will have to go back on the hormones. We have a normal sex life although things have shrunk slightly.

If the prostate cancer has been caught early then the outlook is very good. MRI is a good way to assess the spread of the disease.

Thank you
