Does anyone know about venlafaxine?

I have been on venlafaxine for 2 years.
Managed to get down to 150 slow release dose a year ago and very happy staying there.

For the first time since being on it the chemist seems to have got them from a different supplier.
They are a different shape and colour but same dose.

I am not sure if it's in my head or not but either way my anxiety is starting to rocket. Day 5 if taking them.
It has been a stressful month, pmt is also causing havoc.

It is possible to be different? I am starting to think they are not the slow release ones and I am running out by the end of the day if that makes sense.
Is that even possible?
Would I look nuts at going to speak to the chemist and/or doctor?

My other half is one them. Like all pills different manufacturers make them slightly differently but as long as the prescribed amounts remain the same it's fine.

You could certainly speak to the chemist, some tablets can have a different coating or something and doesn't work for everyone.

Can I ask what dose you were on at the highest please? My DS is on 225 and i wonder if he could go higher or not.

I am a MH nurse.

Venlafaxine isn't a drug that varies by brand, so it is pretty unlikely to be that. It might be that you need to increase your dose a little bit. You need to discuss with your prescriber.

thigh link below contains dose guidelines.

Thank you both. It's defiantly the correct dose so I must just be a little off within myself just now.
I will keep an eye on that.

thighofrelief101 I started at 225 dose. My doctor stated they could reduce or increase each dose by 75 and it was an option for me to increase so I believe they do have a higher dose.
Good luck I hope you ds find a perfect dose. It makes a differnce when you find a goid level.

Thank you everyone. I will book an appointment with my gp to talk over my dosage again.

Tommy thanks, as it's for severe social anxiety disorder he's on the maximum dose. I must say I saw a marked improvement going from 150 to 225

pineapplebryanbrown · 15/02/2019 00:20

I'm very happy with venlafaxine for him, first we tried citalopram and then sertraline both of which were no good for him.

thinkingcapon · 15/02/2019 00:20

I'm on it.my chemist gave me a different brand too (as cheaper). Made me feel a bit more nauseous but calmed down after a few days
I think you're doing the right thing, perhaps a tweak in dose is what you need x good luck

pineapplebryanbrown · 15/02/2019 00:25

It's strange that some meds work on some people and not others. I find citalopram just fine but prozac a total nightmare. My son gets on great with venlafaxine but not citalopram or sertraline. Is it peoples bodies that are different or their particular flavour of anxiety or depression?

MrsTommyBanks · 15/02/2019 00:26

It is an amazing med for me too thigh I've switched over from mitazipine and the difference is incredible.
Mine is for severe depression. I'm just finding the right dose now, but the difference is fantastic so far.

KarineAimee · 15/02/2019 00:29

thighofrelief101 I had been stable on 225mg for quite a few years but ante-natal depression has hit me hard and psychiatrist has moved me up to 300mg, so higher dose is possible. I hope things continue to improve for your DS.

MrsTommyBanks · 15/02/2019 00:31

Sertraline was terrible for me. I do think it's different people react differently.
I was really well on fluoxetine for years, but then it just wasn't doing anything for me.
I think it's true, medicine isn't an exact science. Also there is still so much to learn about mental health.

StressedToTheMaxx · 15/02/2019 00:33

I am glad you are happy in the change in your ds.
I tried citalopram also before venlafaxine but it never help with all my symptoms.
Normally on venlafaxine 150 dose I feel calm but I am slowly noticing little symptoms so it may need moved up for a while.
