What to do about a knackered Achilles?

I yanked my Achilles tendon last may. At the time it was bloody painful, then improved. Then when i was away in July i yanked it again and could barely walk for a few days. Since then its hurt on and off, mostly on, mostly not unbearably but always a bit niggly and bloody awful in the mornings and if ive been still for a while until its woken up and stretched a bit.
I’ve tried running when its been better and then its been worse again. So can’t. The most i can do is a yoga class and then its sore again for days afterwards.

So what can i do with it and who should i see about it? Physio? GP? Is it ever going to stop hurting and am i ever going to be able to run again?

Not an Achilles injury but I have a tendon injury in my ankle. Peronus brevis. Mine has been hurting since last July and I've had a load of physio on it. I paid privately.

I'd go and see your GP, they can refer you for nhs physio or also may be able to tell if physio will be worth it or not.

I've just had an mri and it turns out the tendon is torn and I need surgery.

I have found stuff on massaging Achilles on you tube that has been really useful. Basically pinching from either side, really hard. Hurts like billy o but feels a lot better afterwards.

Problem is depending on what's causing the pain you could make it worse doing that.

Physiotherapy.

I skipped the GP and went straight to a private physio when I was having problems with my achilles. She gave me some exercises to do at home and did some ultrasound on them. She also told me not to run until they were completely better - sadly when I tried to run again it hurt up the front of my shins so I have basically given up running now!

So physio and if they haven’t a magic wand then GP? I’ll do that.

GP can refer you to physio.

Private Physios are the best value for money going and can refer you back to GP for extra investigations.

@Whythelongface

Sadly, no physio magic wand, more likely to be 6 months of thrice daily eccentric stretches before even looking at the alternatives...

Takes ages. See doctor. I got phyiso through hospital as I properly ruptured it.
