Bad supermarket behaviour

Young boys kicking balls about. Tell him to leave it in the car FFS, and don't be surprised and blame him when he knocks stuff off shelves

People putting stuff on different shelves when they change their mind.

People standing so close behind you in the queue you wonder if they're going to start fingering your bum (certain areas of France especially bad for this).

People who probably can't count to ten attempting to use the self service checkout and spending two thirds of their time making lemon faces at the screen. It's supposed to be a FAST lane!

Did I mention: lighthearted Grin

Oh yes - people who behave like rude pigs at the tills, grabbing their change out of the cashier's hands without a word. Bastard.

Ditto cashiers who give you no response whatsoever when you say hi and just bark the total at you Hmm

SemperIdem · 14/02/2019 22:26

People who shopping in groups and are incapable of going to separate tills at the end of said group shop thereby causing unnecessary queues.

Re creepy cashiers - they’re just trying to find a way to lighten the tone. They don’t like doing it however they are personally liable if they get it wrong, loss of job, personal fine etc so do it they will, regardless. Some random strangers pride isn’t more valuable than their livelihoods.

People who use the self serve area for doing a massive trolley shop. I don't know if this is just an Australian thing. WHY would you not use a normal checkout? Where there are cashiers standing around waiting for you (never queues in the supermarket) They even pack your bags for you here.

Instead they take up the whole area with bags littered everywhere. I HATE social interaction but I still accept that if I go and buy a trolley of stuff I need to talk to the nice checkout people

Tiscold · 14/02/2019 22:46

People on about staff doing click and collect during daylight give your head a wobble. They can't do it at night as the aisles are blocked by cages as the shop is being restocked and there is no where for them to go.

They do about 400 plus orders a day and there just isn't space to be storing all the shopping if they did it at night.

Just think there's probably 20 of them that are in at 6am doing hundreds of orders so they cut down massively on the other annoying customers in store Grin

WotNoLoobrush · 14/02/2019 22:47

People who leave rubbish in the trolleys. Why? There's usually a bin right next to the trolley parkConfused

FuckItFriday · 14/02/2019 22:50

People who can't work the checkout at aldi. If you've got a trolley just chuck it all back in and pack at the shelf. If you're smart and have big bags ready and open then I might just let you off...

Dh taking ages comparing prices and pack sizes to find the optimum choice. I walk off and leave him to it now - I can do 75% of the shopping while he is choosing a piece of mature cheddar.

This is one of the main reasons I do most of the shopping online.

I work as a cashier for one of the big 4 Supermarkets. My top 5 hates are:

People allowing young children or babies to sit or stand on the end of my till. So the area where you pack your shopping. I don't know what's on your child's shoes or where they've been. They could also fall off if your on your phone or not watching them. If you allow them to do this then I have to disinfectant the area as soon as you've gone due to the risk of contamination.

People who talk on the phone all the way through the transaction. It's rude and I would not serve you until you've finished the transaction if my bosses didn't make me

People who take frozen items, decide they don't want them and then dump them anywhere they fancy in the store. Unfortunately their isn't a freezer fairy and comes and puts them back where you got them from. My company has a policy that if an item has been out of the freezer for anymore than 15 mins then it has to be binned. The same rule applies to chilled items but they get 30 mins. Please, if you don't want an item then put it back in the freezer or hand it to the cashier. The cashier will then get somebody to take it back. We aren't monsters! We won't tell you off because you changed your mind.

Older children sitting in trollies. I once witnessed an accident where an older child was sitting in the main basket of the trolly. The mother was unpacking items onto the conveyer belt. She had a heavy item (I think it was a casserole dish) and she (the mother) swung round quickly when she saw someone she knew. Unfortunately the dish she was holding was at the same level as her child's head. Because the child was sat down in the small trolley. The side of the dish hit the child in the head. The child was injured (blood everywhere, lots of tears) and an ambulance was called. I believe the child was OK but it wasn't a good day.....

This will out me - but people who steal hanger boxes! Our company has a recycling system where clothes hangers (from the clothes we sell) that the customer doesn't want are sent to a central warehouse and then reused. To facilitate this large flatpack cardboard boxes are sent to each store that sells clothing. The hangers are loaded into the boxes before being returned. Unfortunately (at our store anyway) customers seem to love these boxes. I usually have to tell people three or four times a week that they can't have them when they're half way out of the shop with them. If people take these boxes then we have nothing to put the hangers in. We must have around 1500-2000 hangers a week to send back. So that's a lot to store until the next delivery of boxes comes (at least a week normally). It even says on the boxes in big black letters not to remove them! Hmm

Sop and scan is alright but if you have a item that doesnt scan or are selected for a re-scan it ends up taking aslong as if you'd gone to a normal checkout as they dont have the staff to man the self service section
You need to find another place to shop. There are always plenty of staff on hand to assist in my local supermarket and I've never been held up due to needing their intervention. I do wonder if they are trying to encourage people to move towards self scan because as I say that area is really well staffed and there always seems to be a chronic shortage of "normal" check out staff.

But unfortunately no shortage of the home delivery staff with their mahoosive trollies ... sigh ...

Sparklingbrook · 16/02/2019 10:36

I have had one rescan of the whole shop in Waitrose. Tesco just rescan a bit of your shop it doesn't take much time at all.

There's usually a lot of staff about to help.
