Laptop with dvd drive

Hi I’m looking to buy a first laptop for my dd. I don’t want to (can’t) spend a lot but it has to have a dvd drive. I’d like to be able to take her somewhere where she can see and choose one and have PC world within easy distance.
Does such a thing exist? Or I am I better getting any laptop and an external DVD player/writer. It’s a long while since I’ve bought one so naively expected that most of them had dvd drives still, turns out they don’t! (from my limited searches)
Any suggestions- got to post and run now to after school club but will read and reply ASAP. Hopefully I’ve given enough info to get some suggestions!

DVD drives largely only exist in larger more business orientated laptops as they're generally considered to be a waste of valuable internal space in a device designed to be small and light.

If you really have to have a DVD drive then an external one is ideal and you can rip the contents of the DVD to an internal drive to save having to carry it around.

Out of curiosity what is the DVD drive for? I can't think of a time in the last 8 years when I've used mine (despite having one in my laptop and PC). They don't hold very much data and are much slower and less convenient than external flash drives/hard drives.

At the £500 mark I think the ASUS ZenBook UX410 is an excellent choice, having a decent spec, keyboard, screen a good SSD hard drive.

At the £300 mark the Acer Aspire 3 is a solid choice along with the Lenovo V110

it is dds request and she has special needs so is important to her to be able to play her dvds on it for some reason. Am really not very good on tech matters though so if there is a better way to do this I’d welcome it. Thanks for the recommendations.

Is it possible to play dvds on an external drive- sorry about my total ignorance?

Does it have to be a laptop? Desk tops are a fair bit cheaper

You might be better off getting a stand-alone DVD player (they’re mostly sold for in car use nowadays) for DVDs and also a cheap and cheerful laptop rather than try and connect a DVD player to the laptop which is entirely possible but messy and less portable.

I agree with the standalone dvd player. Can you give me a bit more of an idea on your budget, what the laptop will be used for, how much it will be used outside the house etc. And I'll see if I can find you some good options

Sorry for delay in replying. We have a stand-alone DVD player. For some reason she wants one on a laptop as well. I could try and dissuade her but she’s quite specific and there’s a bit more to it than I can say on here...

You can get a external dvd drive for around £30 and it will play dvds on the laptop. As PP said, most laptops dont have them integrated anymore as they take up space.

We have an external dvd drive and you just plug into the usb port and it works straight away

Great thanks- it’s going to be used mainly in the house so good to know an external drive would do it. Thanks
