I applied for a job when I looked again the closing date had extended by a further month. Does this mean that there was any suitable applications in the first round?

Could me the people doing the sift aren't available so they can allow more time for the process. Or insufficient applications or the right quality have been received. Or they had an internal candidate lined up who hasn't applied or has been found to be unsuitable.

Any of the above, or technical problems with the application process. If you had to apply online and the system kept crashing for example.

Thanks for responses is it likely I'm not going to get an interview?

They might have had to change the job description/ requirements slightly so have extended the closing date.

I had this happen to me, I was still interviewed and offered the job.

Lookingforjob71 · 14/02/2019 10:47

Job is description is still the same.

Who knows? If it's the right job for you and your application fits the spec, you should do.

If it’s my workplace this week then it’s because there’s an awful bug going around and we’re all off sick. At DH’s it would be an insufficient number of candidates they want to interview. Neither of those would mean you aren’t going to get an interview...so I wouldn’t read too much into it.

ShartGoblin · 14/02/2019 11:53

When this has happened at a previous workplace it's because they had a rule about interviewing a minimum number of people. When I had to interview for a promotion, this dragged on for so long and I was told that I had the ob but they couldn't give it to me before interviewing the required number of people. I did get it in the end but it was a pain waiting months for a start date. Then it got extended even further as they decided they wanted to increase the responsibilities and workload of the role so they wanted 2 people.

This really doesn't mean anything as there are so many reasons it could happen.

HotChocolateLover · 14/02/2019 12:03

At my workplace (NHS) it usually means they haven’t had enough candidates. Or sometimes that the ones they’ve had haven’t fitted the criteria.

Aaaahfuck · 14/02/2019 12:10

In my experience on both sides of recruitment it can mean either they don't have may applicants or they've realised they can't do shortlisting when the expected so might as well extend.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 14/02/2019 12:11

Didn't have enough good applicants to bother with interviewing.

Whatdafuck · 15/05/2021 05:45

I fucking hope that’s the case I’m on the same boat as well striving for a job I applied a month ago and now they extended it.

Good luck, I applied for a job which was then extended and I got it!

cmmcd0472 · 24/02/2022 20:37

My advice would be to stop using the F word; you will never get the job if you say that on your interview.

purpledagger · 25/02/2022 07:24

They might not have had enough decent candidates to candidates to interview.

They may want to recruit from overseas so need to extend the advert in order to meet the criteria.

There could have been a technical problem with the application process which affected point 1, so they are extending the closing date.
