Grey streaky marks on white washing - it's time for a new machine isn't it?

I do hope so!

I loathe my Bosch with a passion.

What can I get instead? I don't have the budget for a Miele unfortunately.

Although, just looking at John Lewis website, the lower end Mieles are £700 ish. Does anyone have experience of a cut price Miele? Are they any good?

Otherwise, what are your recommendations? Definitely not Bosch thank you!

New washing machine?! A service wash at 90 degrees will sort that out! Don't forget to clean out the detergent drawer and around the door seal too, and the grey streaks will be gone.

INeedNewShoes · 13/02/2019 20:05

No, it just needs a good clean!

Service wash (empty) on 90 using biological washing powder or specially bought washing machine cleaner, followed by another long wash (on 40).

The second wash is important as the first wash will loosen loads of crap and you need another wash to then wash the debris away.

Soda Crystals £1

Microfibre cloth 3 for £1

Elbow grease £0

Wipe door seals, really getting into all nooks & crannies with a wet microfibre cloth. I use a toothbrush on the inside of the door.

Pop Soda Crystals in & put on a hot hot wash.

That is it.

No, I service wash it regularly.

This is oily marks - caused by the bearings going. In days of yore you could have the bearings replaced by a good washing machine engineer. Nowadays you chuck the whole machine out after 6 years and get a new one Hmm.

Really? My washing machine is 12 years old and still great, I just clean it. It's a bosch too, I thought they last a long time??

Flicketyflack · 13/02/2019 20:19

I thought it was bearings if it is oily streaks!

Perhaps try service wash
Ring Bosch for advice
Buy new machine Grin

I have had two Miele machines & recent engineer visit advised the machine last for about 10,000 hours.

Mine is on 7000 & about eight years old. Wink

I can't help with the streaks but you are not alone with the Bosch loathing, I was positively gleeful when my Bosch washing machine finally died and I could replace it. I got a bog standard indesit and it's far far better. I have other Bosch appliances that are fine but that washing machine was a piece of crap.

BHStowel · 13/02/2019 20:28

Sorry, I’ve had every type of machine, including a Bosch. I’m now on a Miele and wouldn’t look back. Could you sell a child?

I wouldn’t get a Hotpoint ever again. My friend swears by her expensive Samsung but I think it cost more than a cheaper Miele.

Bosch was an expensive mistake. I thought it was similar to a Miele but it really wasn’t.

Actually, if you really can’t afford a Miele I’d take out a months Subscription to Which and go with one of their best buys.

I'd happily sell one of my children tonight tbf Grin.

This is from Marks Electrical. I’ve had better customer service from them than from John Lewis. John Lewis outsourced their delivery and their customer services has been centralised. It was dreadful this time last year.

I am with you on the Bosch loathing, old ones were good but the recent ones are crap, we had one that lasted until the warranty ended then it went tits up. Replaced it with a Samsung, highly recommended on MN but it was horrendous and kept jumping around the kitchen, it was adjusted many times and the company came back for another go, as soon as I put it on again it moved even further across the room.

I had chosen it from a reliable company so their choice of machines was not huge and I wanted a large drum and the only other option was to exchange it for another sodding Bosch. I am very careful not to offend this one.

I would say, do not get a Samsung. Have a look on Euronics for your closest store and speak to them, they are very helpful and have sales which are sometimes all high end machines. I would NOT recommend AO, terrible service, bad installations (more than once) neither would I use John Lewis ever again, repeatedly bad service and always on white goods.
