I used online service and it took just 4 days

DoingMyBest2010 · 13/02/2019 12:23

If the passport is still in date, then why renew? My DD travelled on her baby passport till she was 5. The photo on her passport was taken at 6wks old....no-one every made a thing of it.

spinn · 13/02/2019 12:33

Posted ours this weekend, text today to say expect it by March 6th.

HotChocolateLover · 13/02/2019 12:34

My son’s took 3 days in January! I was amazed.

megletthesecond · 13/02/2019 12:50

mmmm Just in case we do go away. I want us to have the same colour passports. Daft I know, but it's my daft choice.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 13/02/2019 13:44

The only issue with the change in appearance might be if you want to use the e-gates. Last October we went through Heathrow and my son spent ages at the e-gate before it finally let him through. A lady popped out of one of the booths and said he really needed a new passport. As it happens it expires this June anyway.

I've just sent mine off to renew, once it's back I'll do his - just spreading the expense load.

SmarmyMrMime · 13/02/2019 13:55

My friend (adult) has just had hers back within a week of her photos being signed.

Sent off a child passport yesterday so I'm hoping it's quick. I've never had any issues over DS no longer being a bald, blobby baby Grin

I wouldn't send off a passport early for the sake of it (although 6m+ validity at point of travel is recommended in event of a no-deal Brexit) as surplus time will be lost, and passports are not cheap.

I had to renew mine not long before I married and changed my name and it seemed a waste to blow the full fee to change my name at that point. When DS1's needed renewing, it made more sense to send mine off at the same time to change name with only two years left. I had a slight extension, but not the full amount of time added. It was becoming increasinly archaic to use my maiden name for travel only and digging out the marriage certificate for DBS checks.

I did renew mine a bit early, because we are likely to need at least 6 months before expiry in order to travel anywhere overseas after B-day, and that might mean lots of people renewing and longer lead times. Plus, I wanted a burgundy passport with European Union on it.

Quartz2208 · 14/02/2019 08:18

I renewed DD in January that ran out in June, we are going to Majorca in May and I did not want to mess about with No deal brexit and 6 months on passport not worth the stress

CloudPop · 14/02/2019 09:45

Just got my daughter's yesterday. 10 days after I submitted the online application.

JillyWillyPops · 14/02/2019 09:52

I applied for mine on Monday online and it's due to be delivered today. So less than a week at the minute.

spinn · 15/02/2019 20:07

Posted earlier in the week with this
"Posted ours this weekend, text today to say expect it by March 6th."

Updating it with - New passport arrived today, so 7 days from posting it. Their March 6th thing was clearly just an automated text

Cadsuane · 15/02/2019 21:05

I used the online service to renew both my Dds passports. Both were out of date as waiting till youngest was 16 so we could renew both as adult passports. Forms submitted online Sunday 3rd, took less than 10 minutes each and used DH phone for the photos. Old passports sent on the Monday, 1st to Liverpool and the 2nd to Belfast. 1st was here by Saturday the 9th and the 2nd was here on Wednesday 13th.

MissQuad · 15/02/2019 21:19

I just paid Premium service. Too expensive 😫😫

havingtochangeusernameagain · 27/02/2019 18:22

Just coming back to say I've just renewed mine early. I did it online on a Saturday and received my passport back on the Monday about 10 days later.

Just done my son's today and about to send back old passport. That might be trickier as it is a child to adult renewal as he is now 16 but hopefully it will go through without complications.

Boopear · 27/02/2019 18:25

Just done it. Application done week ago Monday, old passport posted Tuesday, renewed passport back today (child) Used digital photo service thing. Vvv quick!

havingtochangeusernameagain · 27/02/2019 18:25

I wanted a burgundy passport with European Union on it So did I! Originally I would have missed out as my passport wasn't due to expire until December and they did away with adding on the 9 months' validity but when they said you needed 6 months plus for a no deal Brexit I thought I would do it now after all.

JellyBook · 27/02/2019 18:28

They will not state a quicker turnaround than three weeks unless you fast track it from the outset of the application and pay extra. I did not have a great experience with the online application as when the photo booth photo was scanned in it wasn’t accepted, even though it passed initial checks. Had to waste the photo booth cost and have it done again - A bit finger nail biting!

I would recommend having the photo done at a place which gives the upload code.
