Algarve in May - Unheated swimming pool?

On the point of booking a holiday for near the end of May (week before half term), but have just noticed that the outdoor swimming pools at the resort are unheated. Apparently the temperature is likely to be low 20s - is that a bit chilly for small children (nearly 2 and nearly 5) to be in an unheated pool, or am I being crazy?

(For full disclosure, DH thinks I’m being crazy.)

Hmmmm. I don’t know!! It might be fine although (for us) it would be a total holiday-downer not to be able to swim! We have been to Greece at half term in May and swam in an I heated pool absolutely no problem but the weather has been higher 20s. Sorry not to be more helpful.

I went in for about 5 seconds, spent the rest of my time in a paddling pool that heated nicely..My 3 year old was a bit braver than me.

Too cold for most adults unheated at that time of year in a 10x4m pool on Southern coast of Spain, so I assume it would be similar on Algarve and colder still if large hotel pool.

sleepwhenidie · 12/02/2019 17:47

Don't do it!

It'll be cold. If there's a smaller splash pool for kids that shoupd be warm enough if they keep moving.

PotteringAlong · 12/02/2019 17:49

Too cold.

Sukochicha · 12/02/2019 17:50

+1 for too cold for unheated

edwinbear · 12/02/2019 17:51

Too cold. Our local fitness pool is around 26 degrees and the toddler pool they keep at about 28.

Pieinthesky2 · 12/02/2019 17:53

I went to Pine Cliffs in the Algarve in the middle of August. Their unheated pools were freezing even then. It will be too cold. And the sea is frigid. What about Cyprus?

foggyuplands · 12/02/2019 18:05

It would be too cold for me but my dc are much tougher and would be okay.

nowlook · 12/02/2019 18:36

Too cold, I'm afraid!

needsleepzzz · 12/02/2019 18:44

We did Gran Canaria in Nov, temp about 25 degrees and the pool was too cold. 2yr old is brave and went in the toddler pool but she was shivering and a bit blue (stubborn bugger didn't want to get out)
No fun for adults supervising in the water I'm afraid, wouldn't recommend.

AveAtqueVale · 12/02/2019 21:55

Thanks all! Have persuaded DH (he thought I was just being wussy as am not known for my love of any water colder than bath temperature), and we are now searching for alternative accommodation with a heated pool!

I see you've come to a conclusion. Fwiw I was in southern spain in August and the pool was still sodding freezing. By the end of the week people were going in wearing shorties!
