Ryanair small bag - is a bog standard eastpak ok?

just about to book with Ryanair.

I am on a budget and saw that only a small bag 402025 cm) is free. Would an eastpak backpack do? is there a weight limit? website wasn't clear.

thanks.

What is an eastpak?

fivennotfour · 12/02/2019 17:11

that is probably the most common backpack in the world Grin

Depends on the dimensions of it - flew with them in December & they were hot on the size limit for non priority customers , checking size of luggage as you left gate area to get on the plane
The Ryanair limit is much smaller than their previous limit so better measure your bag otherwise I think "fine" / cost to check bag in at gate is £40 - £50

Measure it!

fivennotfour · 12/02/2019 17:15

backpack is squishy - does this help? do you know if there are weight restrictions? if not I can roll all clothes up very tightly and pack them into these measurements.

I usually avoid them but they took over my easyJet route Angry

Oh OK Grin Once you proceed with the booking you can choose priority boarding which gives you the option of a small cabin case (overhead locker) and a second bag that will fit under the seat, it's only about €6 extra each way.

I’ve taken a Kanken several times with no issue - a ‘normal’ size day to day backpack is generally fine as long as it’s not bursting at the seams.

fivennotfour · 12/02/2019 17:22

thanks edu. think I should be fine then as long as I travel ultralight Smile

the kanken is pretty tiny, isn't it?

I took a large handbag last time and it barely fitted. You can buy bags to the exact dimensions (see also wizz air as they have the same deal) but we just payed to check one bag, made life easier

EduCated · 12/02/2019 19:15

I wouldn’t say a Kanken is tiny, but does have the advantage of being neatly square! It was slightly over the dimensions, but I didn’t have it rammed and nobody glanced twice at it.

I have just come to start a thread asking similar. This is the first time we've flown with 2 dc (6 and 8) as usually drive.

We have priority boarding but planning on just taking one 'normal' sized backpack onto the plane, will that be ok?? I just keep reading about 'small wheely case' but I would have thought backpacks are smaller.....

From what I can work out, this will go in the overhead locker??

We could then, in theory, take a tiny bag to put under the seat if we wanted?

Have I understood it right? Thank you in advance.

From experience, they are very strict (bag has to fit into their size contraption thing at the boarding gate) so make sure it's within limits,
I have seen people having to take stuff out before they were allowed on board.
