Croatia advice

OH and I are planning a trip to Croatia for 9 days, going from Dubrovnik to Korcula to Hvar and then Split. We've booked accommodation flights and ferry between places just wondering how much spending money to take?

We won't be eating out in expensive restaurants just normal like lunches and bites to eat, we do like an alcoholic drink though. We were thinking about £1000 for both of us?

Any advice on anyone who has been if they think this will be enough?

Hello, yes that will be more than enough for a great time with nice meals. Croatia is very cheap compared to western Europe.

I would be surprised if you didn't come home with leftover money.
A 0.5L of good beer costs about 2£.
Have a lovely time :)

Yes that'll easy be enough. I would google where to eat before you go, because croatian food is very nice but they hide it from tourists and have pizza everywhere in Dalmatia instead. Their oyter places are really really good. I would also recommend Trsteno arboretum if you like classical gardens and Mostar over the border in Bosnia if you want a bit of adventure.

I can’t help OP, but following as I’m also going to Croatia this year.

Aloso, if you go to the new harbour in Dubrovnik you can get loads of state ferry and bus services which are insanely cheap.

Ive been to croatia the last few years, mainly Hvar and it is unbelievable expensive
Eating out is v v expensive for even basic restaurants. Hvar is the most expensive part (also most beautiful) but even other Islands were seriously pricey. Beer is cheap, thats about the only thing, wine not so much. A coke is about 8 euros at a cafe
it might have been cheap and maybe the less well known places are still but we burned through huge amounts of cash there. Everything costs money, beds on a beach which you need as there is no sand. taxis are a complete rip off so use Uber. It is stunning but apart from iceland it is the most expensive place I have been to.

I found it expensive too. Beautiful though.

Patroclus · 13/02/2019 13:52

I've just been reading the reviews and it seems like the Game of Thrones bores might be pushing prices right up in the last few years, as well as coming across as complete philistines from their comments.

Stari Grad side of Hvar is MUCH cheaper (and nicer)

DontCallMeCharlotte · 13/02/2019 15:30

May I recommend this restaurant while you're in Dubrovnik? (just outside the city walls) It's not cheap but the food and setting are just lovely.

As for spending money - just make sure you've got a credit card with you, just in case.

I can recommend the Bokar wine bar in Korcula town. As PP have said, Hvar is £££ expensive with rather rubbish restaurants – Stari Grad on the other side of Hvar island is much better. There are some very good restaurants in Split, if you avoid the square, the sea front and the tourist rectangle of restauraunts just off the north side of the sea front – Paradox wine & cheese bar, Zinfandel and Bokeria are my favourites. Dubrovnik has gone downhill since GoT in my opinion!

Svalberg · 13/02/2019 15:42

Though Bistro Gatto and the Dubrovnik Beer Company were 2 recent good finds in Dubrovnik - both near the new harbour.

Svalberg · 13/02/2019 15:51

As for prices for food & drink, I'd say it was about 2/3 of the price in Italy. We are pretty good at finding the non-tourist spots though. Lonely Planet guides are good for helping with this. And take a picnic to Hvar town (can you tell I don't like the place?!)

desperatesux · 13/02/2019 15:53

Our favorite thing about Hvar was taking to boats out daily to the smaller islands with beaches etc, not sure this can be done easily from Starigrad
Jelsa is nice but again not cheap, I found it had increased last year even from the year before. The place is THRONGED with tourists, everywhere although restaurants are not that busy as it is v v young now (think Ibiza replacement) and it is too expensive for them
We were in Brac too which is lovely but again you are burning through a min of 250 Euros min a day for a family of 4 with fairly basic lunch and dinner and v little booze.
Really really not the place to go unless you have money. I really couldn't get over it. They say themselves they can't cope with the amount of tourists they have so can literally charge what they want now. It is beyond beautiful though
