Retrain as a make up artist

My youngest dd (11) has gone into secondary school. I am looking for a new career or path for myself. Just wondering about being a make up artist.
How to train and the best places.
Is it really hard going finding work later?
Most likely to be self employed?
has anyone out there done this and whats it been like?
I was chatting with a friend. When we were younger, I always did her make up. I have done make up for friends on their wedding days etc.
Did my Mum and my sisters on my OWN wedding day.
I thought I might find clear, objective and practical advice on here.
happy to be told its a crap idea at my age (51)
Many thanks in advance

What type?

High street counter/weddings or film/TV?

weddings...going to the bride and her bridesmaids etc. on the day of the wedding and doing their make up.

photography studios doing magazine shoots or publicity shoots for products

not beauty counters cos thats a sales job into the bargain from what I can gather.
i think tv and film would mean a lot of travel from home and thats not quite the direction i want to go oin.

You need to research courses, there are ones for each 'type' of make up artist.

You're right on TV/film. You need to be in London really still, and willing to travel worldwide.

They tend to be 3-6 month full time courses.

I live in London and I see lots of make up courses advertised but just wonder which are the duds and which are the for real ones.

You need to research them carefully.

I know a bit more about the film side as I have friends who do it and their make up schools are more limited but cost thousands.

Even then, of a class of 15, only a few are still working 5 years on. It's a tough game, you have to be really tenacious, work for nothing for a while and be willing to be the very bottom of the pile.

I'm less aware of the wedding side but sure someone will be along to help you.
