Someone I know who has ASD has asked me to go with him to his WCA assessment next week. Can anyone give me any advice on how to help/advise him and what happens during the assessment? I am not sure whether I am allowed to say anything or prompt him during the interview, for example.
He has asked me to go along to support him because a couple of years ago he was turned down for ESA and I helped him use Citizens Advice and a local law centre to appeal, and accompanied him to the tribunal, which he won (was put in support group).
It seems ridiculous that he now has to go through the whole process again, since his ASD is a lifelong condition, and nothing has changed from two years ago, but it seems he has to jump through all the hoops again. If at all possible it would be great to help him win at this stage rather than putting him through all the stress of the appeals process (stress and anxiety combined with ASD and pressure to apply for jobs he would never be able to handle would make life very difficult for him for the next few months).
