What to do with underwear?

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask but what do you do with your children's underwear once it's been outgrown?
I've been sorting out DS drawers and now have a pile of pants that are too small for him. It seems a shame to put them in the bin but I can't think what else to do with them. Google only seems to point me to US based sites.
Any suggestions?

A textile bin? Or donate to nursery/school for spares. They always need spares

bestbefore · 10/02/2019 16:22

Apparently it's best to now recycle unused clothing, I think at the local tip; not sure if they take pants but assume so; I saw an ad for socks this week!

ChippyMinton · 10/02/2019 16:23

Agree, if they are in really good condition drop them off at school or nursery.

Send it to school as spares.

Shufflebumnessie · 10/02/2019 16:28

Thanks. I hadn't thought about asking if school could use them.
Unfortunately our local textiles bin was removed in December.
Thanks for the link, I'll have a read.

I put some on a local free giveaway site and they were taken by someone potty training their child - guess that depends what size you're giving away?!

Mmmhmmokdear · 10/02/2019 17:14

Donate them to nursery. Or I put the non faded or grotty ones in charity bins, some people really are that desperate.

Wendywoo1000 · 10/02/2019 17:20

Bin them.

FindPrimeLorca · 10/02/2019 17:22

Rag bag to charity shops.

AntiHop · 10/02/2019 17:22

Your local tip should have textiles recycling. They might take it for rags at a local charity shop.

elephantoverthehill · 10/02/2019 17:22

My Dm would have used them as dusters.

BikeRunSki · 10/02/2019 17:24

School reception class
Charity shop as “rags” - along with with out socks and anything too stained, torn, threadbare etc to give away or sell. They sell the rags on weight for textile recycling.

DelurkingAJ · 10/02/2019 17:30

We pass them on to family or friends. Otherwise nursery will take them. If they’re rags I add them to the rag bag which I take (and explain) to the local charity shop.

Anything still usable I give to the hv who would pass them onto womans refuges and others who had fled. I also give her toys, books, unwanted toiletry gifts etc.
I went this route because some parents when fleeing often do so with only the clothes on their backs.
She also passes stuff to homeless shelters so I also give her old adult clothes, sleeping bags, covers etc.

Mine never advertised this as she would have been inundated with stuff. I'd known her for years even before I had my own kids and we always donated stuff.

Dimsumlosesum · 10/02/2019 17:32

H&M apprently take all textile items, both wearable and unwearable. For every bag taken in to them you get a £5 voucher.

Charity shop or school.

habibihabibi · 10/02/2019 17:43

Lots of kids didn't have any underwear when taught in East London in the late 90s. I quite often bought packs of them as well as socks and shoelaces and gave them out.
Now I drop my own kids lightly used socks and pants into school . They will always find a use for them.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
