If you or your child Is dairy intolerant, how far up the milk ladder did you get? And did they grow out of the intolerance?

Not me, but my friend's DS can now have everything bar pure milk to drink, cereal etc. He is 2.5yrs. Not sure what the expectations are for whether that will change.

Thankyou for your reply, we tried step 1 with dd and she's been quite poorly, do you know what symptoms your friends little one had? Xx

Failed on rung one with ds, will be trying again in the summer when he’s two. I have a dairy allergy and can’t have milk, liquid cream (but ok with clotted cream), milky or cheesy sauces, dairy cream ice cream. I’m not sure how I’ll be after being dairy free since ds was 4 months. My symptoms are nausea and being sick, ds usually gets very bad stomach ache and is occasionally sick.

Thankyou for your reply, how old is your lo? Mine is 15 months I have spoken to the dietician who wants me to try again in 6 weeks but I'm not happy with trying again so soon xx

Dd has CMPA and we can't even attempt the ladder, she reacts to the smallest trace in a may contain . She is 11.

BendingSpoons · 09/02/2019 21:39

When she first weaned him he had sickness, diarrhoea etc. I think he also had some eczema. She had been breastfeeding before though and I don't think she was cutting out dairy. About 8 months ago he wasn't having butter etc but is now. Sorry this is a bit vague, I don't remember exactly. How old is your little one now? It must be tough for you.

BendingSpoons · 09/02/2019 21:40

Cross post, seen her age.

beeyourself · 09/02/2019 21:55

We tried and failed a few times. Eventually on dairy without restriction at about 2.5y

Ds is 18 months. We’ve pretty much been discharged from the dietician and told to just try the milk ladder again in. I think they do usually recommend 6-12 weeks but I said I was waiting until the summer. I was four before I was ok with dairy in foods and I’m not in hurry to have weeks of sleepless nights by disturbing his routine by giving food that’s makes him ill.

Littletreasure2017 · 13/02/2019 10:41

Does anyone know how long it would take for the symptoms to go? Xx

We didn’t even try before about 2.5 . Once we started, we were able to go quite quickly. DS was having milk by around 3. He is 13 now and drinks it by the pint.

Jackshouse · 13/02/2019 12:49

Nearly 3 year old can manage one malted milk biscuit.

GerryblewuptheER · 13/02/2019 12:57

little

Dd2 had cmpi

I,.like you went to drs for a dietitian . We had the whole mill introduction thing too

Now this was what I did and is by no means necessarily what is right for everyone else

But tbh the whole thing was far more stressful than it was worth. Toddlers cry when the sky is the wrong colour its difficult to figure out if they are in pain or feel bad or just had a bad dream or in a foul mood. So I just didn't bother. Why rodk the boat when they were so happy and doing just fine. All so they can drink stuff that contains minerals and vitamins that can be gotten elsewhere anyway.

She grew out of it. Figured there would be enough accidental exposure to ensure molly wasnt a totally alien substance to her body.

She had grown out of it by 3/4 and it was far less stressful when she could just tell me if she felt ill. Ofili had to do it again I'd make the same choice. Not bother

Milk

I dont even know a molly Confused

SmarmyMrMime · 13/02/2019 14:01

DS1 identified at 1 (12m). Had a reaction to accidental exposure to butter at 20m.
Began milk ladder around 2-3?
By 4 I felt confident he could eat a "normal" diet, and didn't inform school of his allergy history.
He's always refused neat cows milk. We still use Oatly as I have tolerance issues anyway. Otherwise his diet is normal.
I have noticed that he gets dry skin if he has too much bread (had soya intolerance too), but he can manage occasional amounts. Eggs are completely fine now.

I found the milk ladder harder than the total exclusion phase!
