DD's expenses for using own car for work

For someone who has to work at a different branch of a company to usual, just for one day, what would be a reasonable sum to request to cover use of own car to travel there, given that the round trip on this occasion is approximately 100 miles and normal commute is 2 miles? My DD's employer has offered her £10, but I thought £0.45 per mile was the norm. Thanks

DS had a part time job with a HIgh Street retailer. He worked at one local store. He was required to travel to another store 30 miles away for a training course. I made him ring his insurance company up to tell them about the 1 day course (which was a one off) to make sure he was covered for the trip. They added business use to his policy at no extra cost (he was 19 at the time). Standard cover does not cover anything other than travel to and from normal place of work. When I worked for a large employer who had multiple offices we had to have business cover on our insurance in case we were sent to another office (even though we usually worked in the same office).

Back to your original question OP, It is usual for a business to set out a mileage rate or public transport rate for travel expenses. SHe needs to check their policy on this. Like you, I have always been paid 45p per mile by organisations I have worked/volunteered for.

Our business expense forms include the statement that you must be insured for business use to claim mileage, and I think it is in the employee handbook.
