I've NC in case I do end up giving info about myself.

In a nutshell - have worked in the role I am now for a long time. I need a change but don't have a lot of self-confidence at the moment and I'm struggling to decide if I'm even actually qualified to do anything else or if I should just stay where I am.

If I was to list my qualities (Grin) could you all give me some ideas of new jobs I could look into that I may not have thought of? I've been looking online but every time I see a long list of criteria I just write myself off...

can't advise if you don't want to share info...

Op you've literally given us nothing to go on Grin

Assuming you're after ideas on how to think of a career....

I'd look at as many people as possible as you know, and think about whose job you want. All stages of life - so if you like the sound of a super senior role, the next step is to think about how you'd get there.

Or if you want actual job suggestions - lion tamer.

Oh sorry! I just wrote 'if I was to list my qualities' as I had no idea whether anyone would actually care Grin ok here goes....

Almost 30
Have a degree in law
Have worked in retail since I was 16, started as weekend staff and have been management for about 5 years now - this entails organising staff rota/dealing with daily administrative tasks/placing orders/sorting deliveries when they come in/handling cash/displaying stock etc.
Done a short (6 month) stint working in HR for a very well known company - I organised contracts of employment for all staff/ensured handbook was up to date/dealt with grievances and disciplinary procedures/hiring new staff/terminating employments etc

I need a change. Retail doesn't really work to my strengths and so the longer I'm there the less confidence I have!

Why doesn't it play to your strengths?

ineedanewjobplease · 08/02/2019 20:05

@SomethingWithLemons I feel like the people I work with are creative, doing really good displays and come up with original ideas. I'm not like that at all. I've tried and failed to find new products that sell well. And honestly, although I like people and enjoy working within a team, I don't overly like being in a customer facing role.

Sorry to be dim, but if you have a law degree, why can't you do something with that? I assume that it interests you?

ineedanewjobplease · 10/02/2019 13:35

@RedHatsDoNotSuitMe tbh I done the law degree because unfortunately at the time a close member of my family was dying and the way that degree was arranged meant I could stay close to home to study and spend time with them. I always felt like it would still be a good degree in terms of opening other doors.
I applied for the LPC in my final year of studying and was accepted but decided against going down that path and declined.
Starting to wonder whether I just should have done it 🤷‍♀️

Its not too late to go into law. Look for some para legal work, apply for TCs and reapply for LPC.

You will have some added value to many forms as an older trainee as you already have life experience and can speak to people. You will be surprised at how many trainees can't!

Definitely don't rule it out.

Did you enjoy the HR because that might be a route to pursue and a company might sponsor you to do CIPD exams.
