Any ideas for a little ‘from the UK’ gift?

DP’s brother is over from America at the moment, and has kindly brought some little gifts from him and his wife, American candy, Yankee candle, Burts Bees/other US brand lipbalms or hand creams type things.

We’ve never been over to visit them together although are hoping to do so next year, and obviously will take gifts then, but I’d quite like to send something back for his wife this time too.

Any ideas for a similar gift to send back? I’d do Cadbury’s chocolate or shortbread or something but they’re both very healthy eaters so I was thinking more like the makeup/beauty stuff but a UK brand? Needs to take up negligible room in the suitcase and be £10 ish ideally.

Just another thought, I always get people to bring me trashy mags over from the US as I can't get them where I live.

Does that work the other way round? Would someone in America appreciate British Hello or something like that?

I agree with WarpedGalaxy - I live in the US and I have cupboards full of teabags, Marmite, etc that people have brought because they think I can't buy them here.

Having said that, I'd love some tablet or Kendal Mint Cake. I haven't seen either of those here.

I love it when people bring me UK magazines.

Risking being flamed - a lot of people cannot understand the British love of/obsession with tea 😁.
But anything with your flag, tins etc. or f&m, or magazines.

I'm British and I don't understand it...

Orange chocolate always goes down well - orange Clubs, Terry’s chocolate orange etc.

The suggestions that are over budget are all useful for when we visit so I’m noting them all down - this is just a little something but a bigger gift will be taken to thank them for hosting when we eventually get out there!

UK magazines also a good shout - I love when my aunt brings me Spanish ones like Hola and Pronto even though I don’t know who any of the ‘celebs’ are and my Spanish is fairly basic so I can’t read half of them.

Duchy Original shortbread has been popular (brand of Prince Charles and often organic), and we also had one person who loved Thorntons Chocolates! Not the healthy eating options though.

Penhaligans do a lovely gift set of perfumes, beautifully boxed and v English. Many of the art galleries have lovely online shops - note books, bags or umbrellas from British artists or landscapes. Wedgewood is another good brand lots of people have heard of.

Maybe some art/music/fashion from up and coming British makers? Rather than traditional and heritage brands - your friends might like the idea of having a piece of the next Damien Hirst or enjoy A bit of grime from Stormzy? Grin

Yorkshire tea
Shortbread - Duchy Lemon
Neals Yard stuff
An Agatha Christie novel

A map tea towel?

Impatientwino · 07/02/2019 22:35

Elemis products are amazing and British.

Quiet mind temple balm and apricot toner are my current favourites

They usually come with a nice gift bag etc...

I'd take some Harrods branded things (they love that), Yorkshire soap company and tea or some Betty's ?
