Sprained ankle/ cramp type feeling in foot

Anyone had any experiences of bad sprained ankle/ ligaments?
I sprained my ankle due to a fall (down steps and over onto my ankle) over a week ago and it's still very painful and I can't put any weight on it. The main pain is under my fault where it feels to cramp a lot? I can barely move the ankle or toes.
Had hoped I'd be hobbling around more by now?!!
A and e originally said to rest then do physio exercises. Doctor this week has said to rest as it's not getting better.... and to go back next week if no better?

Was taking cocodamol but have felt really ill and spaced out today which I think was from that.

Anyone had similar cramp type feeling in there foot or any tips to help it heal?

Thank you

is pain across sole?

lifestooshortandsoami · 07/02/2019 17:20

Yeah. It hurts round my ankle but the sole of my foot feels like it's gone into cramp and won't release a lot of the time? If that makes sense?

Plantar fasciitis? I get it jointly with Achilles tendonitis. Oh the joys...

@lljkk thank you that article is really useful.
Ouch that must be painful for you!!
am not sure if mine is plantar fasciitis as it's more around the ball of my foot? I'm guessing I've damaged the ligaments and possibly nerves around there.
Trying to move it when I can but don't want to make it worse!!

I broke my 5th metatarsal (near little toe on right foot) 7 weeks ago and only got out of plaster last week. It's not healed yet but is healing. If I try and put my foot flat on the floor I get a shooting electric shock type pain (like, when you jump off a high wall onto a pavement?). I can only walk comfortably by landing on my ankle and walking on the inside of my foot and my toes go into cramp occasionally. My ankle also feels sore and my foot is still swollen but the consultant said these injuries are awkward to heal and can take 3 months. I only had an x-ray so not sure about ligament damage as it won't show up.

Are you sure you only sprained it?

ScarletPower · 07/02/2019 20:31

*the pain is on my foot, just before the toes (where it feels a bit fatter and more padded than the rest of the foot), if you know where I mean?

lifestooshortandsoami · 07/02/2019 22:31

@ScarletPower the doctor said def not broken anything but it feels like there's something more going on? Although I spose it could just be the ligaments as I've never damaged ligaments before so not sure what it's like.
I can't put any weight on my foot... mainly cause of the cramping type pain which is similar to what you've said like a shooting/ cramping electric shock type pain. It also feels like my toes (particularly the smaller ones) are numb a lot of the time.
Going to ring the doctors again tomorrow as i feel it should be feeling a bit better by now??

A few years ago I hopped down from a low wall but it was further than I thought and my ankle bent underneath me - I felt a huge snap and the pain was so bad I threw up. The next day my foot was black down both sides and so swollen and I went to A&E - I was absolutely shocked it wasn’t broken. They said I must have torn multiple ligaments based on the swelling and bruising - didn’t get any treatment, crutches or anything. I was in so much pain for weeks - I ended up buying an ankle support because the pain when it moved when I was just sitting or in bed brought me to tears (and I’m already on morphine for another condition!). It took 3 months before I could walk short distances without pain and even longer before it didn’t hurt at all any more. I still think maybe something was missed - I’d keep going back, and mention the cramping / spawning, I didn’t have that at all.

Thank you. Mine sounds really similar except for the cramping. It feels like if it's broken they know what to do but if itsbother things they just work on the basis that it's a sprain and will 'take time'. I don't mind it taking time as long as I'm not making it worse and it feels to be getting better (which it doesn't). It feels never ending already!

Ligaments can take forever to heal. Bones are preferable to damage. Friend tore her ligament in ankle & needed physio & all sorts, many months before she felt ok again.

SinkGirl · 08/02/2019 09:18

No idea what I meant by spawning!

It was a truly awful injury, I’ve hurt my ankles many times but that was by far the worst, far worse than when I’ve fractured it. They didn’t bandage it or anything but I definitely needed the ankle support - the pain was much more manageable when I got that on.

lifestooshortandsoami · 08/02/2019 10:20

Thank you both. I feel like it is going to take a lot longer than I first anticipated. The ramp feeling is a little less today, have got a tiny bit more movement so trying to move it when I can without making it worse. Husband thought I was just being a wuss but think (hope) he's realised now how bad it is
