Did you use a dummy with your newborn?

My baby feeds soo much, sometimes I'm sure it's just for comfort as he falls asleep as soon as he's latched on.

He's only 17 days old but I'm wondering if I should try a dummy? Or will that affect bf?

I tried using a dummy about 4 weeks in and he was fine

I bf all of mine.
And took a dummy in my hospital bag!! Guidelines say a month but the author ain't in your home with a crying dc for 4 weeks!
Ds had the MAM 0-2 month size.

With dd1 we were adamant we didn't want a dummy and didn't use one. With dd2 we tried giving her one and she wouldn't take it! Both breastfed.
They do use it for comfort and it can be exhausting. It won't last forever but try a dummy if you think it'd help

Both of mine had dummies. Ds was around 3 weeks old, with dd we tried when she was about a week old and it took her about another 2 weeks to take it.

Yeah and dummies are now recommended to reduce the chance of cot death.

I dont think it will effect your breast feeding as you will learn when they want the dummy.

You can still try boob at any opportunity you think he may want the comfort/milk/cuddle ect and if they fail, a dummy is a great back up.

May save your sanity and save the cost on nipple cream Grin

I introduced all mine to their thumbs very early on. They are now non-thumbsucking adults with perfectly aligned teeth.

Yes x3dc.
Never thought I would Pre dc because I didn’t like the look of 4 year olds walking about with them in their mouths.
But then dc1 made my nipples bleed by sucking them raw for comfort 24 hours a day.
So dummy it was.
All of mine had them and none of them had trouble giving them up and didn’t start thumb sucking either.
Was an absolute godsend.

DS1 was either sleeping or feeding (with frequent switches!) and DP got desperate to give me a break and went and got one, but DS1 wasn't interested in anything that didn't dispense milk! (So DP found other ways).

I think it's worth a try, but your baby is still very young - I think it took until about 2 months for things to calm down, and another couple for it to be easy.
