Temp of 37.6 Keep home?

DS was sent home Monday, with head, leg and belly ache, by lunch had a 40 degree fever, spent Monday and Tuesday morning vomiting, then was fine. Temp rose to 38 again yesterday lunch time and he conked out for 2.5 hours on the sofa. Right as rain today. Will send to school tomorrow.

DD said yesterday afternoon that she had a headache and felt sleepy. She later admitted this was because she wanted to watch tv with DS and not tidy her room. Checked her temp this morning to be on the safe side and it is 37.6, which seems a bit high for an early morning temperature.

Don't know whether to send her in or keep her home and assume she's about to get it. 95% certain school won't make a fuss (we don't have attendance quotas like in the UK)

I would think that 37.6 is a normal temp, well for my child it is but perhaps they all vary. I hope she doesn’t come down with it.

NannyR · 07/02/2019 06:54

I would consider that a normal temperature, I probably wouldn't have checked it if she seemed well in herself. I'd send her, if she does feel ill later on you can pick her up.

I’d see how she was once up and about. If she eats breakfast and seems well enough I’d send in. I might give a dose of paracetamol/ibuprofen just to be cautious.

Would send mine in on a temp like that providing they otherwise seemed ok

ForeignnessAlert · 07/02/2019 07:00

Yes, she seems fine and bouncy, eaten breakfast as usual.

That would be a raised temperature in my children but of perky and otherwise fine I would give Calpol and send to school. If unwell then I'd collect.

donkir · 07/02/2019 07:04

Was it an ear thermometer? These can give high readings if the child has has been lying on the ears such as being asleep. I'd check again in half an hour and see. My boys average temp is 36.6 so 37.6 would be classed as a high temp although 38 is usually the time I keep of school/nursery.

RedWineIsFabulous · 07/02/2019 07:04

It does sound like your DD may be coming down with it.
Deforell the school and give Calpol andif she gets any worse keep off.

greenlynx · 07/02/2019 07:10

Check her temperature again in 10 minutes,it might change.

Thanks, I've sent her, but called her teacher to say I'm home with DS all day so can collect her if necessary.
